1. Combat squads, I know you don't have to use them, they have a lot of dexterity but I would suspect they would get swamped easily. When you fight as many swarm armies as I do divide and conquer is out of the question. +++ not if you properly support your units with other combat squads, or support vehicles, or things like assasult marines & characters...
combat squads lets you truely divide your army into and 'overwatch' heavy weapon gunline & fast moving assaulty spearhead.+++
2. Trait system, I know horribly OP and broken, but was it really? All Orks now have Furious charge "built in" so why couldn't say, the Crimson fists have preferred enemy and furious charge as their doctrines and whatnot? It's really not that big of a deal, seeing as marines almost never charge into CC unless pinned against impossible odds or backed by fighters (AKA the Assaulty marines/ Veterans). +++ furious charge isn't that bas on orks. they go from I2 to I3 and gain S4 for 1 round of combat...
furious charge on an entire marine army would be a wee bit more game-breaking when you consider they become S5/I5 for a turn! (IC's become I6!)
i only hope that whatever new system they put in place doesn't screw over the other original legions this time 'round, while giving out all of their unique stuff to everyone else like it was candy!+++
With a little innovation and reworking I'm sure that it would be fun to have a chapter of marines that actually adhere to the training they undergo specifically to enhance fighting capabilities.
3. The Ass-can spam, Yes I do believe this is horridly broken as well (Fought an entire 4,000 point ravenwing, yet I truimphed!) I believe rending should just be taken away completely from the Assault cannon or reworked to not be so confusing in new editions.
The Ap-2 wound and +D3 Pen? Whats the point anymore? Instead, the fact that the fire rate is so focused, it should instead add +1 to the damage table result. +++ *sigh* fear not, and ass-can will still be able to take out a land raider... it's just a helluva lot harder now as it should be!
it's not that confusing really, and units with rules like 'feel no pain' will still get their special rules against the ass-can. (but yes, no ranged weapon should ever have gained rending!)+++
4. I'm not entirely sure, but are they taking away the ability for ICs to have retinues? If so I am mortally pissed! (Tell me 626! PM ME!!!!!) +++ no - you're simply not forced to put your IC into the command squad now... so you can have say a jump pack chaplain lead those assault marines & let the command squad fight on it's own!
or you can simply stick the IC into his command squad proper...+++
5. Powefist "supposed" changes, whats the point if they can no longer gain a bonus? It was worth when you had more attacks, but the nerf its receiving is not worth the 25~30points on a sergeant for that crap excuse. +++ i think that S8 is still fething awsome! who cares if your sergeant goes down to only 2/3 attacks - it's no different than say an eldar shining spear exarch w/star lance, and eldar players still field those boyz!
S8 really is *that* good, and the fact that it seems like the power fist is greatlt over-used means that it's probably too good. so it's changing to reflect that fact.+++
6. Armory nerf, I"m not extremely mad but I wanted to keep Bionics and other things like auspexes. (they were absent from the Chaos dex' so I assume they're reserved for new IG) +++ well, i do like having to not resort to flipping all over the place in my codex now! and things like bionics weren't really all that usefull to begin with...
plus, the loss of the armoury has ment there's really no more instances of awkward characters who need about a page and a half worth of FAQ fixes!+++
7. All in all, it feels like they are taking more away from the game's awesome customization and feel while contributing very stale and stagnant rules. It just doesn't feel like my space marines are unique anymore, being stripped of ALL special rules. |
