Hey, all!
The wife and I are in the process of moving to another state and all of my 40k stuff is packed up, so no painting or playing in the near future. However, I have a discount card from my local store I need to use up before I move and was considering picking up the fantasy rulebook and a couple of army books I'm interested in. With most of my video game and hobby stuff packed away I figure I'll have a lot of time for reading. So I figure before I dive into another money sink I'd get some advice from you folks since you're all so damn knowledgable and friendly

So anyway, here goes.
Where is the current edition in it's life cycle? I'd hate to pick it up only to find there is a new edition coming out it 2 months.
I've narrowed my army choices down to 4 : Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, and Dark Elves. Are these armies reasonably up to date? Again I'd hate to start collection an army that is about to be redone. Although, keep in mind, I probably won't even be buying any models for 3 months or so. Also any thoughts you have on said armies for someone who is starting fresh. I'll admit I'm leaning heavily toward Wood Elves because I think their range is pretty awesome.
I plan to pick up the rule book and 2 army books next week. Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!
