This happened to my mom's Dell about 2 weeks ago, the cause of the burnt CPU is probably the same for both systems. The fan on the CPU's heatsink will die and then the CPU can't stay cool...about an hour later is fries itself. So we took it to the range and set it up at 150 yards...good times! Currently building my mom a new computer, tell me if you need any help picking out a new one or something like that, hell I'll build you one if you want me too.
