Re: unpainted armies It doesn't bother me at all. I started out playing CBT, in which you could use a bottle cap to represent a figure so long as it didn't get confusing (though we actually worked in double blind games where I played, tons of fun)
Some people don't have the time to paint and can only get away for a little while at a time to play the game. For any non tournament game I see no reason to be anal about something as stupid as "colored or not". If you have the time and money to invest in a tournament however, the least you can do in base coat them and pick out a few details.
