Well, since no onse else has, i'll post my own inept stumblings in the 40K universe first:

9th Grand Company Night Lords vs. 6th Grand Company Emperors Children

Dramatis Persona:
Emperors Children:
Lord Commander Erus: daemon prince with doom siren, dread axe, daemonic stature, daemon armor, daemonic aura, combat drugs.

3rd Comminus(asp champ: bolt pistol + power weapon and doom siren w/ frag grenades, rest bolt pistol and CCW w/ frag grenades. Rhino transport)

4th Arcus Squad (asp champ: bolt pistol + power weapon and doom siren, rest sonic blaster and CCW)

Agustuts, the Desecrated one: dreadnought w/ warmp amp, twin linked sonic blaster, dreadnought CCW (heavy flamer).

Daemonettes x 9

-Game(about 1450 pt.s each)-

Rolling for mission: Tonight, James suggested we do a mission. Being new to anything BUT annihilation (which I excel at), we rolled for the mission. We landed on a hold and secure and, again, since I was new, we took the alpha level.

Deployment: We Set up to deploy, with me winning the roll. I placed my dreadnought under a good covered course so I could get up and hit his army without taking shots from his dreadnought. Next, he place his, right almost in front of me. Excellent… Then came placemen, with me dropping two squads of rhino mounted close combat troops to either side of my dread, with my sonic blaster squad deploying within twelve inches and instantly gaining me one counter. Next, I placed my elites (terminators) with the shooting squad, for fire and close combat support (sonic blasters and power weapons, with a chain fist, lightning claws, and a reaper auto cannon in the mix). Then, my lord was placed in between a dread and my fifth squad.

Turn 1(EC: 1, NL: 0 N:4:

Night Lords: Advanced rhino to middle of the board, behind cover, and moved lord diagonally towards a counter, with raptors taking a hill, and all others but terminators and dreadnought, who rolled a 6 for fire frenzy and therefore got double shots, training them on my 5th squads poor rhino. At one miss and one roll of 1, things looked bad. An instant 6 too, vehicle explodes. Even worse. Damn my deployment. After roll, two of all the squad don’t have to make saves, and the debris scattering 6”, to hit my lord. WTF is up with the 6’s? However, a stroke of luck. All saves made! Now though, I’m hoping none of his bolters and heavy guns can train on me yet.. Curse Long rage armies… STAND AND FIGHT LIKE MEN!

Emperors Childre: I advanced my 5th out of the wreck 5”, and moved my lord behind and house and in command of 2 tokens (bless you daemonic flight). Termies and shooty advance 3” each onto the edge of the hill, falling barely short on the average guns, but blaster master, so I took a pot shot at his lord, to try and eliminate the kai gun, Once my sonic blasters were in range, I’d take care of the squad helping him secure the token he has. My dreadnought Agustus lumbered up field, under cover, to try and give my 3rd squad some heavier support, since the 5th had a lord. The shot from my blast master missed once, hit the second, but sadly glanced off the daemon armor of his lord.

Turn 2(EC: 3, NL: 2, N: 0)

Night Lords: Moving his lord into covered, half, and his squad into the shelter of a building. I guess my 3rd squad will have to divert a little. Raptors moved to a forward spot behind another building arch, and now the daemonettes may be coming out soon. Rhino has moved forward to block my advanced, and deployed it’s troops to the rear, Chosen spilling out, I began to scurry. My idea is to deploy third, slam daemonettes, and then just ream through his squad, using dreadnought to carve up whatever else was left. The lord carved out two of my troopers from the shooty squad, and now the hillock looks like a slaughter ground, with the dreadnought using Duncannon and missile fire at me. The missle managed to take out one, the auto cannon shells doing nothing. If the shooting squad survives, they go behind the beefy terminators. MEAT SHIELD HO! A rhino shot at my 5th, and did nothing due to a good save. Assault called in, and a meltagun from the chosen was brought into play. Dear god this is ugly. Theassault scored a penetrating on my rhino, with a 6 on the damage to explode my rhino. FUDGE A DUCK. One man died, but one on his died as well. With their lower numbers, they’re already at moral test time. C’mon power weapons.

Emperors Children: After some heavy losses, I moved my termies into a massive meat shield around the meager remnants of my shooting squad to keep the token under control . 5th squad dove behind a house to keep the two tokens on its side controlled. The Lord Erus advanced, and decimated the rhino of the Chosen with a mighty blow, removing on of the enemies own troops. The 3rd squad, supported by Augusuts (dreadnought) moved in and demolished the Chosen, in a perfect position to anihilate the raptors and gain control of the token.

Turn 3: (EC: 3, NL: 2, N: 0)

Night Lords: Plasma fire was the only thing out of a huge hail of fire to hit my daemon prince, and the terminators fulfilled their duty as meat shield (why he didn’t try a priority test with his Lord, I’ll never know). The dreadnought was taken down in a sneak attack by melta bomb equipped raptors, who suffered nothing from the explosion. Due to a severe lack of control over his gun, from previous times as well, the Night Lords Lord died a bloody death.

Emperors Children: The remaining two marines of the third squad took sheltered behind a wall to keep a token under my command, as my terminators eyed the raptors, contemplating shredding them into juicy bits. The daemonettes slammed into the ground, ready to take vengance in the name of their lord. The termenators unleash a reaper auto cannon storm on Squad Perovolous, with the remnants of the 4th Arcus squad shooting the raptors off the table. Due to misjudgement in assault range, Lord Erus has been left standing in the midst of the battlefield. DOH!

Turn 4: (EC: 4, NL: 1, N: 0)
Night Lords: Passing many tests, he was fell by a plasma gun. The Night Lords may escape total anihilation.

Emperors Children: Terminators began advance to take final token, along with remnants of 3rd squad Comminus. 4th Arcus retreats to hide in cover, but still in control of the hill-token.

Turn 5: Surrender by the Night Lords! VICTORY! CHILDREN OF THE EMPEROR! DEATH TO HIS FOES!

Comments: In all respects, James fought a well played game. The first few turns, he really had me sweating bullets with all the blowing up of tanks, but for once I kept my cool and didn’t panic. Foot troops are foot troops, and they will die. I just needed them above 50% to hold the tokens. My dreadnought was a blow too, but it came too late, I had secured too many tokens. The daemonettes actually for once saved me, bolstering the garrison on the middle token to a sizable force no one wanted to mess with. I think James started giving up too early in the game, and he didn’t seem to try to advance his terminators or anything. He is, admittedly though, not a man who values close combat, or likes it. I used to be the same with shooting, but after having him eradicate my pink armored arse a few times, I adapted and have now gotten a fairly balanced list. He is coming around to such, with his chosen and as he builds his raptor. Time will tell how our armies final casts turn out. A valiant effort on his part, down to the last volley. though. Had it not been for a rather skewed placement of tokens (we never noticed two on one side of a building deep into one side of the board. I think he might have held the last point, but we will never know now.
