well any kind of army that settles with close combat is always gonna have trouble without some sort of balance between shooting and cc (doesnt apply to khorne, BA, BT, or the ORKS)
probably one of the best things i heard on this forum is infiltrate a heavy weapon platoon or devastator squad or whatever version your race gets so that way they deploy last and can get a good los on that hammer head.
