I like the grenade launcher idea better... it seems much more likely. It's just like... why brings horses to a modern battlefield... kinda like bringing a knife to a gunfight, you know? Even in the present, horses aren't used anymore... they'd get mowed down by machine gun fire and such... as for the sergeant with chainsword, i've often wondered this myself. I like to think that it's traditional, and practical, as it helps distinguish him from regular troops. that and he gets an extra attack in cc...lol.
