Falcons are generally considered one of the best (if not THE best) tanks in the game. I would highly recommend he buy one of these over the Fire Prism. The Falcon's advantages are:
- High rate of fire-on-the-move, especially if equipped with dual shuriken
cannons or scatter laser/shuriken cannon. Unfortunately, leave the star
cannons at home this edition.
- Equiped with Holo-field and Spirit Stone its incredibly resiliant
- Can turbo boost 24" a turn, 36" with upgrades.
- Limited transportation abilities for a squad of 6 or less. One of two 'taxis' in
the 40K universe (land raider being the other) the Falcon can deliver small
specialized squads to where they're needed (Fire Dragons, Banshees, etc.)
or bail out depleted squads who are 'tactically withdrawing'.
The Fire Prism got better this edition, but I still think Falcons are the better choice.
Against Nids, he should upgrade his Rangers to Pathfinders and find a nice peice of terrain to hunker down in. Use their Sniper rifles to take out the big things and synapse creatures.
The Dire Avengers should stay static as well, preferably in cover, directing their Bladestorm against Genestealers and other large broods coming their way. The Farseer/Warlocks should cast Doom on the same brood the Avengers are targeting while standing forward and prep'ing for the interception. Their 4+ invulnerable saves should help them weather the storm, although he'll be rolling a lot of them. Destructor on the warlocks should help for those seconds before that painful first wave.
Grey Knights and IG will hump him unless he starts getting more Wave Serpents and AP3 weaponry. |
