- the inquisitor lord should not be tooled up for assaults because he sucks at it! honestly he's no better than a heroic senior officer in a guard army...
drop all the hitty stuff & wargear and instead save him for shooting; psycannon + 3 gun servitors. or else you can try for the 'burny death' set-up and go 3 vet guardsmen w/flamers and give the lord an incinerator!
-same thing goes for other inquisitors... throw them into assaults and you'll only be dissapointed.
the only real combaty that works well with any inquisitor is to give them holocaust! you don't need to be in base-to-base to use it so you can safely hide your very squishy =][= behind his lackies and then let rip!
- don't mix weapons in storm trooper squads. like all guardsmen they really need to specialise if they are to be effective...
a good tank-hunting unit is a 6 man squad w/2 meltaguns in a chimera w/2 heavy bolters. (for the ap4!) quite nasty as the chimera can gun down any survivors that aren't entangled or else take pot shots at a nearby supporting unit...
flamers have their uses in a transported unit, but again work best when paired. (more hits/wounds before you assault as you won't be using the hellguns in this case!)
units w/2 plasma guns should be left sitting in some cover and providing fire support as generally moving any type of guardsman forwards will only get him dead quicker...
- lose all the hunter-killers as your chimeras are only BS3... one-shot only weapons that cost the same as a storm trooper aren't worth it as the trooper will do more!
- drop the heavy weapons in the armoured fist squads as they're going to be moving... or else drop 1 AF squad and get a cheep infantry platoon instead!
- that sentinel would like improved coms! it'll also be a god-send in any missions that use the reserves and/or escalation... and remember that he doesn't have to be on the table to get the benifit either!
- add-on heavy bolter sponsons to the russ - now he's hellish! once the cannon is gone he can move 6" and still unleash 9 S5, ap4 shots at some poor, defenseless enemy unit!
- make sure to target a river spaning the length of the table with that orbital strike!
genrally though, i've never really thought too much of them as they're highly inaccurate and can be avoided after the first shot... (and they kill more of your own guys than even a demo charge will!)
cheers!
