i'd say no as well simply because the wolf guard battle leader, while a wolf guard, still pays the more expensive pts costs in the armoury! that alone kinda points out that he's not a 'regular' wolf guard and thus should not be eligable for the specific wolf guard upgrades in their own entry...
however, there are arguments both ways obviously. still, in the spirit of the game it comes down to 'would my opponent likely complain and see it as unfair?'.
