hmmm..personally, i prefer the devastator squad, because it has more "lives" than a vehicle does, ie the devastators need to take 6 wounds, while the drednought dies after its weapons are gone. but it's really up to you. both are effective anti-infantry and anti-tank units. :]
I'm also planning to put in two Whirlwinds for the future. What other stuff should I use to fill in those gaps for 1500 pts? Maybe more troops with a different setup other than Lascannon/Plasmagun?
lascannon/plasmagun is a pretty good setup, in my opinion, but some people seem to prefer others, like flamer/HB, etc. it's up to you, and it also depends on what you have in terms of anti-infantry and anti-tank already. sooo let's see that list! :]

hmm...personally, i think that the dread is a little bit expensive, especially in a 1k army list. it's strong though, a good support role.

good, in my opinion. others might say differently but i think the las/plas combo is viable.

how many models are in this unit? that would be helpful. 2 flamers will make this an excellent counter-assault unit..just be careful, cause they die just as easily as marines, unfortunately. the powerfist is a good choice too. i'm assuming the chaplain will join these guys, yes?
