as Four20 already said, Starter set is great. I completely agree with that. gives you enough equipment to play small games, extra models for, well, whatever, and the portable version of the rulebook (which i bought both the 40k starter set and fantasy starter set for, even though nothing else in the box interested me much except extra dice)
Also, although I'm not usually one to pass up an opportunity to convert someone to the cause of the Druchii, I can see that you're not interested in elves much ( =/ ) so I'd say tell us a bit more about your playstyle (tactics, theme, etc) and hobbystyle (paint lots, paint few, paint big, paint small) and such and i'll speak a bit more. (though my post is sizeable)
