Name: Vius Thiabyr
Race: Space Marine
Age: 84
Height: 9' 2" (11' in armour)
Profession: Mercenary, former Brother Captain of the Seven Hells Chapter.
Equipment: "Exterminator" Heavy bolter carbine (combi-flamer, just sounds cooler), Powersword, bolt pistol(also silenced), various grenades and bolter shells. Normally wears heavily modified mk 8 armour (Iron on the torso, shins, boots and gauntlets, black on the uper and lower arms, upper legs, cod piece and shoulderpads, gold trim). Modified Carapace armour (same colours).
Distinguishing features: One deep off-vertical scar running over his right eye from hairline to jaw. Three horizontal scars down the left side of chest that contine across the left shoulder and bicep. Seven Hells chapter livery tattooed on his right bicep, Aquila tattooed across his shoulder blades. Various scars, burns and bolter wounds across his body.
Appearance and personality:
Charsmatic and aloof, Vius exudes an aura of stern confidence and is as loyal to his friends as he is merciless to his enemies. With piercing blue-green eyes and obsidian hair and close cut beard, heavily flecked with silver, he is a calm, laconic veteran of many a campaign whose cynicism hides a zealous (even by astartes standards) faith and devotion to the Emperor of Mankind and His vision.
Background:
Born on Lucytan, the eldest of four children, Vius shared his father's love of technology, and displayed quiet cynicism and disdain for the methods of the Imperium, traits which were only magnified when he joined the ranks of the adeptus astartes.
Obsessed with unlocking the secrets of technology and gene-seed manipulation, the Seven Hells Chapter preached independence, creativity and self reliance as much as teamwork, and that the mechanicum was very wrong in its worship of machines. As such it was a requirement that every Battle Brother, from scout to veteran, look to his wargear with a diligence that put the Salamanders and Iron hands to shame, every bolter and chainsword artificed by the Brother's own hands.
Given this new beginning he threw himself into his training and into battle with comendable fervour, and soon began to despise the Mechanicum adepts and the arbites for their blindness. The route to brother captain was long and bloody, though he had only held the rank for a scant ten years when the Inquisition, tired of the open disdain for Imperial law the Chapter displayed, their disregard for mechanicum edicts, covetousness of xeno tech, as well as the newly discovered Genhancement practises, declared them exterminatus.
Rather than die needlessly fighting their brethren, the chapter master ordered that as much equipment be saved as possible and the fortress monastery be abandoned. Setting the defence systems to automatic, the techmarines set a massive thermal charge in the fortress monastery before the chapter fled into the warp, heading for the eastern fringe and those places where the light of the astronomicon grew dim. There, far from the eyes of the Administratum, they reviewed their priorities. The Emperor's edicts had to be preserved, and in his name they would continue to fight chaos and those enemies which threatened to destroy his dream. They also resolved to continue their research, raiding xeno settlements and chaos strongholds for armaments and equipment, and fighting in smaller, independant groups wherever and whenever enemies took arms against the Imperium.
It was on one such mission, tracking a band of heretics through Tau territory, that his team was set upon by a warband of Renegade Astartes. True to form, they set upon their enemies with fury and righteous anger, each squad becoming separated from the rest. Realising that defeat was a very real possibility, Vius called his squad to him and struck at the heart of the traitor forces aiming to sever the head and end the battle swiftly. But the sorceror and his terminator bodyguard were not about to give in easily and fought back like caged animals. Even as Vius lifted his sword for the killing blow, the renegade sorceror did tear open a portal in the warp, casting Vius and his squad through that realm.
It was a dark moment for the Brother Captian. Waking up cold and alone on some hole of a world with only the gear on his back and the corpse of a terminator champion to his name. Yet all was not lost. He still had the last known coordinates of his company and the chapter fleet, and the planet he was on operated a variety of trading posts. Though he attracted a great deal of unwelcome attention, he managed to secure and hide the terminator corpse, hiring himself out to whoever would pay, and eventually secured transport on the Sunfury, offering to pay his way as a hired gun and sometime artificer.
