if you decided to use a primarch, which many players that i've seen seem to avoid, i'd likely go for vulkan as well. blood angels don't seem to be so into the whole "let's just burn it and be done with it" idea, whereas the heavy flamer/flamer sees a lot more use in the salamanders, and likely their successors as well...
i could see the argument for cursed founding, but he hasn't really mentioned any "accursed" aspects of the chapter, so i suppose that might be a weird thing to do. but of course, you could model mutations and such and that would be excellent for cursed founding !
your color scheme might be a little different from the sallies, but nobody will mind :] could you tell us more about the colors you're using and where ? or use a painting thingy and post a pretty picture ?

Some people don't like playing against primarchs, cause it's not super fluffy, in terms of the time line. worst comes to worst, just make the primarch stand in as an uber commander :]
