The part about the Marine commanding a strike cruiser is cool. The line about him witnessing all these things and then doing worse is also a little chilling. I like all the similies and metaphorical descriptions, too.
By the way, it's "berth", not "birth". Normally I'm not one to point out mistakes if corrections are not asked for, but this one is a little glaring/confusing. Sorry!
