1) you're lucky if you get 3-4 turns done within a decent day of gaming!
2) minimum is 8'x4', and that's for the smallest apoc games... you're best off just rolling a gaming mat or two out across the floor if you don't have multiple tables! apoc games are ment to be big affares... (consider that you ideally want a gaming area where things like basilisks can't fire beyond half-way diagonally when shooting indirectly!!!)
