In the Gaunts Ghosts series, autocannons are referred to as .50 cal heavy machine guns. If autocannons are .50 cal, then I don't think that they fire fast enough. Compare it to an M60, which would fire faster? If the autocannon rules were changed to heavy 3, they would probably be taken a lot more.
