This is the thing. My brother is almost 13... when we got into the hobby he was like.. 11. I turned 16 this november... two years ago, when I got into this hobby, I was 14... to many people, this is to young.
Yes, I am a terrible painter (working on it!) but I understand tactics, I understand stats, in fact, I love them! I can undestand how to use things just by looking at them on my codex. I am memorized both the Space Marine and most of the Tyranid Codex to the point were I don't even bother to use my codex to write up army lists... I know all the points, rules and the like in my head. I have memorized the wound and hit charts... and, while my brother hasn't done so, he knows the rules, and he understands mostly everything.
If I encountered this "game store kids" I would get mad. These are people who give the kids and young teens who do, for real, want to learn how to play WFB and 40k a bad name, to the point were people just refuse to play with them. Now, I'm not saying this is unfair... since these kinds of kids are the majority of the kids that play 40k...
And, Cesitial guardian, I salute you, I'm not sure I would have the patience to explain sportsmanship to someone else.
