I think realistically it will be a more fusion type design. Talking to a friend of mine who works in the industry, he said that is what the buzz is.
When I say this, I meant.. Well.. Take an MMOFPS, and an MMORPG.
It'd be first person(rather like Battlefield 2) shooter. But, more in depth on the character. The kills would provide 'experience'. YOu would level, or 'go up in rank', and as you do, you edit and add skill like a normal MMO. That way, everyone is different.
Obviously, there are some stumbling blocks.... How could IG work? SM? The factions need to be there to give the game any chance, and our ideas (not official, but they would work well and follow what info is out) were thus:
IG would need a LOT less kills to level. Though they would never be as strong as an SM, they could be fixed by IG guns not able to be fire by an SM, and by representing the damned near inexhaustible ammo a lasgun has!
An SM obviously would have low ammo (16 rounds per bolt clip!). However, they would move impossibly fast, have great CC and ranged (depending on spec, though potential for both is there). I think you all see where I am coming from.
