So, my mother has decided to get me a sizable gift card to the local game shop... Given I have a battle company coming when I pay it off (and it would be insulting to sell the gift card to pay it off), I thought I'd do something you'd all enjoy!
6th Grand Company Emperors Children Chaos Space Marine Legion (W.I.P.)
The terminators depicted in this thread (even when barely close to 1/2 done) were my first conversions, and seemed to go over well. I still have MOST (minus the heads) the bits to make them.
And, now that i've tried it once, i've learned a few things... For one.... I will be cutting the plastic 'knee joints' out to keep as much as I can that DOESN'T need to be sculpted!
Secondly, as per the last 'lightning clawed' one... I'll be pinning all knees to the legs, then using minimal greenstuff + sculpting to make the knees more realistic, smooth, and natural.
The shoulder pads I bought from the Tyrus model form Inquisitor kinda NEED that strip/fringe you see in the artwork on the pre-heresy termies. Otherwise on a side few you can see the bar shoulder joint of the original terminator arm underneath, which I don't like/care for.
I think it was a new ork model I saw, or maybe Chaos (really think it was Ork) that had a bit that was just a free flowing crest/topknot that I'll buy enough of, or buy one and GS mold. These I will affix to the terminator armor on top to make the flowing crests in the artwork that originally inspired these! Plus, for the Roman Themed black saints, a free flowing crest can be used rather nicely for the assault (cavalry) squad sergeants, or maybe all the sergeants.
Next, i'll be trying methods of GS/Plasticard, or mixes, to make the grills/gorgets in the front of the helmet, like pre-heresy art shows the terminators are often equipped with. I am leaning more towards cutting the basic shape of of PC, and a thin GS layer on top to sculpt details on as the easiest and best method, but I will need to actually get my fingers dirty before I can tell for sure.
As for weapons.. I'm not sure how to arm these boyos.. My original storm bolter + sonic blaster conversion was well liked by all, and I might still use them as 'counts as' combi-bolters (NOT twin-linked bolters >.< COMBI!!!).
Although, by the time I get these done, this new 'Forces of Chaos' or daemon codex might well be out, and i've heard rumors of cult enhanced rules.. So I may well hold off on them until then. I also intend use the new plastic Chaos Kit, with a bit of some special conversions to enhance them.
I intend on adding chains with a symbol of Slaanesh linked the shoulder pads and draping across the chest, and green stuffing flayed skin 'cloaks' (patches of skin haphazardly sewn together, and making some of the scaly skin, some feathered, some fur, some humanoid, etc..).
The left shoulder pad of each will also have the up swept wing emblem the Emperors Children legion used to designate officers. This will, hopefully, be an exact replica of the current chaos corrupted Legion symbol..
Also, I will use the Terminator Lord for the Aspiring Champion, and will likely be making him bare headed (using a Brettonian head I found online) with a shimmery cloak of iridescent feathers, and other such things.
The only wonder now is what to do head wise.. Were the old Iron Warriors ones good? I like them, but D_C's comment about not really being slaaneshy does kinda stick in my mind..
And no.. I'm not rebuilding my Chaos.. I'm building these as an homage to my mentor and the man who got me into 40K, and the III Legion specifically. He is now pretty much sick enough to not be able to model, and was stopped 1/2 through his own conversion of this nature, so I intend to follow his footsteps and complete them. I may even paint them pink for his memory.
