take some drop pods & deep striking termies. that will give you the protection you'll need from tactics like the fish of fury. for your deep striking units, take heavy flamers as well when given the option; templates murder the tau!
also, it's a good idea to hold back a few of your units to counter things like the aforementioned insertion force!
another trick is to pick on any stealth teams as they're key to the rest of the force's deployment...
take a blind barrage as one of your strategic assets. they're dead brutal! the only things they don't protect you from are flyers... hopefully your guard ally is bringing some AA support because the tau have some insanely nasty flyers like the tigershark... still, it's fun to lay the barrage 1st turn and then march a bunch of your assault force up behind it!
also, assests like the flank march can be game breaking when played well - just beware of getting hit by the sniper asset which can stop your flank march dead in it's tracks!
