Default 40k Terra's Fleet Fluff (must read)

Eastern Fringe M45.657:

Master’s Log: The Fleet came out of Chronoboost just on the edge of the Guiedain Asteroid belt. It was at that time that Naval Officer Fredrik Hess alerted me of several metallic objects coming up on radar.
“Perfect time for an orkish raid sir,” Hess shouted.

“Hmm.,” I thought to myself, “But they would need quiet the substantial fleet to challenge us. However, the Orks are brainless, sheer faith in their machines is all they have, and a killing instinct to boot.”

“Commander Hess!” I ordered, “Give the command to send a detachment of fire ships out in the open, prepare for an impending attack. In the mean time I have to give my full report to the Emperor. See to it that you do not fail me this time.”

Generally Fire Ships are mere decoys disguised as fighting units, freighters or transports to coax the enemy to attack it. At that time, when they are close, they detonate.

“This plan shall not fail, I’m positive that this is an Ork Fleet out there,” Hess thought to himself, “Its just a question on whether or not the Ork’s ignorant instincts take hold and attack.”

There in a closed room lit only with candles stands a priest. In front of him is a large Space Marine on one knee. He is a highly decorated Space Marine, have seen many years of combat from space. His name is Master of Fleet Arturous. Resting upon his shoulders was the weight of Terra’s newest fleet. It had the most battleships assembled under one man, many cruisers, and countless crew. Though only four hundred years old it is nicknamed the Invincible White Fleet. He became the crushing asteroid in the Eastern Fringe.

“Have you purified your thoughts, and cleansed your soul?” the priest asked, “Have you recited your litanies?”

“Yes,” Arturous replied.

“Then you shall, by my authority, speak and be seen by the Emperor.”

A wide screen lit the room, powering over the countless candles. The Priest then left the room, and the door closed behind him.

In only a matter of minutes an explosion erupted. Arturous grinned a little.

Officer Hess standing in his command position shouting orders, nervously shaking his leg, and pointing his hand zealously at the incoming Ork Fleet.

“Commander! Incoming transmission from the Ork Fleet”

“Read it to me”

“It reads. ‘Give us yer ‘eavy gunz ant we wont make your flesh our eats.’ That is all commander.”

“I want all forward Nova Cannons to charge and fire once they get a lock on the incoming targets. I need a full report from the Hegemon and Pylortes once they fire. Lock on!” Hess shouted with much zeal.

“Sir, the readings say we can’t fire, the nearest enemy is within minimum detonation range!”

“Where the hell is the enemy!” Hess replied.

“Emperor, you there?” Arturous asked. At that time the transmission started to break up. “It must be those damn asteroids interfering with our transmission.”

“Master Arturous report to the bridge immediately!” Hess bellowed. Though panic, prayers and shouts of horror covered up the intial order.” Arturous couldn’t help but to feel a slight chill down his spine that he has not felt ever since his first battle.

The command room became dark, sensors of all sorts were going off the charts, and holograms from neighboring ships dimmed the room with their commanders shouting for orders. It wasn’t until then that they realized an entire Ork Space Hulk eclipsed the ship and was hovering over their 12 o’clock high.

Arturous grinned again. “ Have the Chaplains recite the Terminators their litanies, and prepare for boarding parties.”
