Default Welcome to the Jungle

I recently played a very interesting battle against a couple friends over my fall break.

Escape from Dshungul V

This was 1600 points (my Tau friend played with as much as he had), and I played with my Angels Apocalypse LatD 'counts as'. We decided that we would play with two mountatin type things in each corner of our board. The rest was jungle. Pure jungle. We said that this was standard "you can see through 6" of it" jungle. Even vehicles. He had Kroot, which is why he wanted to do this... plus we had just played "Dark Crusade" and I'm sure he was inspired by the "Feral Leap" the Kroot can get (which is pretty awesome).

So I set up almost all my units int he jungle except 1 (which was a big mistake).

Turn 1:
The Tau got first turn, and he decimated the squad of 5 CSM with lascannon I had placed on my mountain (because there was no space left in my deployment zone!). He also completely decimated a squad of Traitors with his Kroot (we each had two infiltrators, and we could deploy within 12" because you can't see through more than 6" of jungle, except for Kroot!).

On my turn, my infantry and vehicles moved slowly throught the jungle. My other group of 15 traitors moved up and double tapped the other group of Kroot, without much success (4+ cover saves...)

Turn 2:
The Kroot attempted to assault my traitors and aspiring champion that had moved up, but fell short due to difficult terrain. The other group of Kroot assaulted my other traitors (x15), and proceeded to annihilate all but one. But he stood his ground!!!

I then proceeded to shot the living crap out of the other group of Kroot with my two Hellhounds and Leman Russ and Traitor squad, and commander & retinue in the Rhino. They got toasted. My rough riders assaulted the Kroot fighting the lone traitor, and mopped up pretty good, running the Kroot down.

Turn 3:
My thrid friend decided that now would be a good time for a detatchment of Space Marines to drop in out of hiding. Shooting occured. It now got messy.

Despite the Tau effort, they managed to leave 3 Terminators on the mountain with the two firewarrior teams, 2 hammerheads and 2 broadsides alive. SM squads mostly survived, or got assaulted, etc.

Now I focused on killing the Dread near my Russ and Rhino. It didn't die. I managed to kill one Space Marine near my other group of 5 CSM with lascannon. I diverted my Rough Riders to help, but it didn't do much.

Turn 4:
The terminators assaulted the Tau firing line, the Crisis suits killed a Marine squad and one of my Hellhounds. I proceeded to assault with my defiler and move my remaining traitors and rhino forward. I killed the Dread with plasma and power fist. Overall pretty messy. We never really finished. It would have been a massacre, I think, if there had not been jungle terrain. My vehicles would have been toasted...

Anyway, an interesting battle. You couldn't shoot until you were nearly on top of them which was interesting because you could double tap, but assaulty units could then also assault with little time to whittle them down.

I would suggest trying it! Or making other crazy rules! It's fun!
