Balsa seems, to me, to be cheaper and easier to find. Plus, whilst it is marginally less malleable... It's strength there is what we want.. The foamcore, whilst easier to shape, will be easier to chip/dent/scrap/break as well. We must keep in mind flyers in general are delicate vehicles (As ID has said, the valk is a rather tiny, frail model) so we have to increase the strength where we can!
