I find that flourescent (sp?) bulbs work fine for me maybe its b/c I'm used to it. I also paint with the rest of the room dark and the lamp right overhead. But I might have halogen lamps, either way it works. I see what you're saying though. And the swing lamp magnifier thing is a must.
