What allies does is basically add another choice to your HQ, Elites, Troops, and Fast Attack choices. Think if it as "0-1 Daemonhunters HQ", in addition to the choices of Commander, Chaplain, and Librarian, with a Daemonhunters HQ being an Inquisitor Lord
OR a Grey Knight Hero (which cannot be the compulsory choices, and neither can the troops), and so forth.
Did I just make it more complicated?
