Default Battle For Paranxes #2

Again, Like the other battle report. The kills may not be entirely accurate nor the turns. But it is pretty much as it is. It is hard to keep track when several turns are a huge mélee in the middle of the board.

The Story...
The 20 Red Corsairs had suffered heavy casualties after the initial landing on Parenxes. Only the Skull Champion of the berzerkers could be brought round and this left only 5 marines. Fortunately the Blood Reaver had prepared for this and not long after the request for reinforcements was sent out, six bolter armed marines and nine khorne berzerkers were teleported down onto the planetary surface.
"My men have spotted fifteen Storm Marines in defence of the supply bunker, it would be rise to take advantage of the cover so that your Men can reach there at a decent strength this time Ghrash." Gideon spat the words out disdainfully at the Skull Champion who grunted in return and skulked back off to his men.
"Lets do this."

Deployment
Barnet and I rolled off for deployment and it seemed as if the Corsairs truly had the element of suprise on their hand. They won the dice off easily but elected to have the Storm marines deploy first.
Barnet placed his 10 man squad on his far left, probably hoping to take advantage of the Chapel of Sanctuary. My Khorne Berzerkers took up position as far on my left as possible opposite to the Tactical squad behind thick cover. Barnet then placed his Devastators behind his Tactical Squad, although they could see nothing. The 10 Man Chaos marine squad then took up position to the right of the berzerkers.

Turn 1
The dice off took place and once more the Corsairs won it. The berzerker squad on the left charged forwards almost making it into a piece of terrain whilst the 10 man squad ran forwards through the woods, positioning themselves as to deny any shots this turn. With no shooting or combat, my turn was over.

Barnet took much the same approach as me, seeking to run forwards and shoot in the following turns. With no shooting or combat again, it was time for Turn Two.

Turn 2
Once more the berzerkers ran forwards this time reaching the terrain with an impressive 6 for their difficult terrain test. This brought them into a great position to charge out next turn if the Storm Marines were foolish enough to proceed further... The 10 man squad in the woods ran forwards yet again, however. My turn was over and it was over to barnet.

Barnet once more ran everything forwards. His 10 man squad lined themselves up into a very aesthetically pleasing space marine gun line. This allowed them to take a few shots at my marines if either of us moved much further...

Turn 3.
This began with the berzerkers rolling their second 6 for their difficult terrain rolls! This brought them within assault range of the Storm Marines but for now they were content to bellow abusively at them. My 10 man squad waltzed forwards through the woods inadvertedly putting themselves in the line of fire. In the shooting phase both squads opened up, a plasma pistol shot from the berzerkers hit a marine but merely cooked a Purity Seal. Whilst the bolt pistols did a nice job of mowing the grass. It was much the same story with the 10 man squad who made short work... Of a nearby tree.
The assault phase was miserable with the berzerkers rolling a snake eyes and the 10 man squad out of range! The Bloodreaver would not be pleased.

The storm marines turned off the safetys and poured a rain of lead into the 10 man squad, felling one of their number with a well placed Plasma bolt. The devastator squad took a shot with the only gun in sight of the berzerkers (a missile launcher) and launched a frag grenade. This proved to be a pain in the ass as far as saves were concerned as it wounded on all four accounts felling two of their number! Darn loyalists! Turn three was over and truly next turn the loyalists would meet their demise... Or so I thought.

Turn Four.
The berzerkers once more failed spectacularly at running throught the ruins at full pelt managing their second snake eyes! They were obviously terrified for their paint jobs (Consisting of a Chaos Black undercoat and not much else generally). The 10 man squad ran forwards to be sure of a charge and opened fire felling one marine with a melta-blast. The other marines were merely treated to a Plasma camp fire and an orchestra of lead zooming past their auto-senses. The assault phase came and once more the pathetic excuses for Berzerkers rolled a three on their difficult terrain test. Leaving barely a milimeter betwixt them. It did assure an assault next turn. However, the 10 man squad reached the marines easily and the assault phase began. The power sword cleaved through two marines and the other corsairs fell upon them causing 19 wounds. Barnet clasped the dice and rolled. Passing a ridiculous 18 of his saves! Needless to say Slow was onhand to be suitably enraged at the Storm marines "Why didn't those dice to that for me! Bloody Commies!" He really likes his communists. The attacks back came at although wounding several times, failed to pierce the Corsairs armour. Combat was over and both units stayed in the fight.

Now it was barnets time but nothing could shoot the berzerkers and he didn't have the forsight to move the Devastators out of the possible assault next turn... The combat was shortlived with neither of us causing wounds

(I can't remember Barnet having his turn four actually, No models died though...)

Turn 5
My movement turn saw the berzerkers shuffle forwards before assault began. The berzerkers finally charged home surrounding the Storm Marines. The attack began and the Khornate warriors inflicted a terrible toll on the loyalist (scum) marines. They had their attacks back and wounded a single berzerker who passed his save. Next the 10 man squad attacked the power sword cleaving down two more marines, leaving a total of five left. Now the power fist swung home taking down three more!!! The marines failed their morale test but were caught and tore apart by bloodthirsty marines. Both squads massacre moved a satisfactory 5 inches forwards. Right infront of the devastators *gulp*

Barnets turn began and the devastators opened up on the berzerkers fearing their whirring chain weaponry. Only two fell, making a total kill tally of four berzerkers and one normal corsair. The turn drew to an ominous close.

Turn 6.
Everything stayed motionless during the movement content to shoot the hell out of the devastators before charging home. In the shooting, one marine got lucky with a bolter wounding the champion whilst the Skull Champion redeemed himself with a well placed plasma shot, seperating a marine from his head. In the assault phase everything moved in to surround the devastator squad. They stood no chance and failed to wound a single Corsair before being ripped apart by the renegades.

The day was Ours and a massacre meant my first win with the corsairs!
The Blood Reaver would be pleased...
