Re: Space Marines VS Imperial Guard To save time, I'll post my previous arguments.
Note that many Space Marines do come form death worlds. And the marines from ultramar have no ties with families. In fact, the only chapter that DOES have family ties is the Salamanders, and even then, those are just adopted families.
If they never turned traitor, then we'd never had chpaters. then we'd have only 200,000 marines.
Chapters were only created so that a rebellion like the Horus Heresy would never happen on such a large scale. Although the Ultramarines Legion was large, keep in mind that the chapters after the second founding were not the same ones from the legions.
How would the marines gain an advantage? In fact, I think the longer a battle lasts, the more of an advantage the IG has as the Space Marines resources drop down because of the sheer battle of attrition they have to win.
Also, a Space Marine may be worth ten Guardsmen, but 1,000,000,000,000 Imperial Guardsmen > 1,000,000 Space Marines

Yet baneblades will easily destroy Terminators. I don't care if a one of them got stomped on by a titan and lived. But to bear two heavy bolters, an autocannon, two lascannons, a demolisher cannon AND a baneblade cannon on them, that's definetly a kill. Where did you get the information that there are more suits of terminator armour than baneblades? You do realize that there are many, many, Super Heavy regiments right? Also if I was a Space Marine, I'd be envios of The Guard's tanks. Do Space Marines get Volcano Cannons? Plasma Blastaguns? Hellhamers?
There are twenty super heavies in a regiment. You underestimate the morale of Guardsmen. Death Korps, Cadia, Valhalla, and many others are full of courageos and quite fanatical Guardsmen.
For the Space Marines, fighting the Guard is to remove a grain of sand from a beach one at a time. Wtih a grain of sand being an entire regiment, for the are BILLIONS of regiments.
Space Marines also need food and water. Despite being able to go without it for quite a while, they'll eventually die out if they don't.
Without the Guard, the Imperium will collapse. Who will protect all the worlds? Who had participated in Lord Macharius's glorius crusades? Who is sacraficing millions of lives evey day?
The size of the Galaxy is much more suited to the IG. They can suastain an attack alot longer than marines can. We're not talking about a few squads needing food. We're talking open, full on war between the Guard and the Marines. The IG Simlpy control too many worlds. Captured a few worlds? Boo hoo. We have 1,934,344 more form where that came from.
There are billions of regiments due to that there are millions of imperial worlds, each having thousands of regiments active at a time. Though marines can eat almost anything, this doesn't mean it always sustains them. The Gaurd's stregnth lies in its numbers. Space Marines can't hope to kill trillions of them. You keep mentioning about supplies. There are too many industrial, agricultural, etc. worlds to conquer. Undoubtedly, if the Guard learn the Marines were specifically targeting their worlds, they'd more heavily fortify them. |
