I enjoyed this book more than any other Warhammer 40k book I have read, and it is quite possibly my favorite book of all time. It made me buy an Inquisitor just to have one and make a story for him.
Dan Abnett has put together one heck of a plot and the 40k universe takes on a whole new light. 40k is already dark and mysterious, but Abnett somehows makes it seem even more so. His descriptions make it baroque and often foreboding. I especially enjoy how he write about Eisenhorn, and how he goes from an Inquisitor who has the strength of will to burn a book of great knowledge and power even as it calls to his very soul, to using a daemonhost and keeping another unholy tome. Abnett made me feel the character Eisenhorn and when he uses Cherubael to destroy the Titan, I found myself thinking "No, Eisenhorn, don't do it!"
I also enjoy Abnett's witty remarks in the book. They were few and far between, but they were fantastic. For example, then he bursts in, armed, on Madea Bentacore while she is getting a midnight snack:
"It was then that I realized I had lost the towel when I kicked in the door. I was what Midas Bentacore would call 'very naked'.
Except, of course, for my loaded gun."
Genius!
As I have recommended over and over again, everyone must read the Eisenhorn omnibus. The book is simply amazing.
