No, Squats are no longer a part of the 40K intellectual property (other than the lasting copyright on their background, which can be considered in GW's control, rather than directly linked to 40K) and thus will never ever make a reappearance.
They were not dropped for being unpopular, they were in fact very popular as far as I have been made aware.
Squats will not have appeared in Dark Heresy. Period. See 1st paragraph for the reason.
As a related but unrelated note, a sketch of one of the mysterious Demiurg appeared at a recent GW event on the Forge World stand. This would put forth the
possibility of a Demiurg unit appearing for the Tau Empire, even if it is just produced by FW.
And if that has no meaning to you, then i'll simply say that the Demiurg can be considered to have inherited the ethos of the Squats - but it is important to note that they are 100% an alien species.
