a ' watercolour ' like effect can be achieved with oils as well, just requires that you heavily thin your paints with turpintine. Its also much more forgiving then watercolors as well, as once you make a mark with watercolors its a done deal. With oils, fixing a mistake is as easy as wiping your canvas clean with a rag.

i can't be doing with oils,they take too long to dry and having all those canvases in the room would do the wifes head in ,she's bad enough with my paper

..i've banned her from cleaning up but she's obsested with mops/cleaner/polish..
i did know that(i'm not a total ignoramas
