I had the same problem too, my solution was to take a couple of spare bases and paint on " flor de lis " on em and use them as " faith counters " so to speak. One counter for every faith point you start off with, flip them over as you spend them, and flip 'em back when you gain a point.
Cheap and visually effective, and it helps both players keep track of remaning faith without any suspicion.
