If the DVD isn't working... take the DVD player out and give to the shop... if they fix it, good, if they don't, buy a new one.
There's no need to send the entire tower over...
And if you don't have the computer skills to remove a DVD player (its not to hard actually... I've watched my mom do it and I think I could figure it out), then surely you must have a friend who can?
