Well I have never been a fan of Black for wings... I would recomend doing something different, a lighter shade of blue... wait you don't like Bright colours. Give me sec to think

I am thinking a dark green, mix it with a bit of black to darken it up a bit. then a light drybrush of a bone white or Putrid flesh to bring out the highlights.

I would also run a brown ink over the skulls to make them look old and nasty.
