Hi dad. I've been scheming lately on the guard, and I think I may have come up with something that you might enjoy. You know how I've been trying to come up with a good mechanized list, but always ran into the problem of not enough guns? I think I finally came up with a solution that is painstakingly obvious. Conscripts. They cant be mounted, so I save 500 points to bring an additional 50 bodies to the fight, but with the way the new template rules work all I need to do is give them missiles and grenade launchers, plus with the new LOS rules I can clump them and stick the main general behind them, and then send his chimera with the others to pull a refused flank maneuver right in the first turn so that instead of my line being spread out like most guard lines are I can bring the entire weight of my army down on one side, and by turn 2 come slamming into his flank with at least 5 chimeras, naturally equipped with multilaser and heavy bolter, plus have my foot sloggers running up behind dismounted so that when the tanks get taken out they don't take damage and can immediately get into the fight.
I'd use the conscripts for my center because that'd be my "unbreakable" line of defense that keeps his opposing flank from pounding my forces that I care about. I realise it's a gamble right from the start, but at the same time I think it's crazy enough that it may actually have a chance in hell of working and completely catching everyone flatfooted. After all, who in their right mind would be dumb enough to make a dynamic guard army that relies on rapid movement and willingly sacrificing all of it's precious heavy weapons for five APC's (that carry three 3 shot weapons, making it potent anti personnel)? After all, the line would disintegrate, you are guaranteed to lose over 50 guys every game, and your chimeras which don't count for anything but VC's at the end of a game will be torn up, but then again, I think those chimeras can punch a hole through their line, using your dismounted foot troops to follow through and start causing some real hell. Especially if you can get a group of vets right in the middle of it to bring more accuracy and punch to the fight. WHat do you think?
When I have the chance, a place called The Comics Keep on Wheaton Way in Bremerton. With the house and extra stuff at work, I haven't done much gaming lately.
Another rason being sick is bad . I know that sucked we had a few nice days then these last few have sucked. Where in Bremerton are you at? I lived in Belfair for a couple years along time ago, now i am in Olympia/ Tumwater area.
