That’s sad it's a really good gaming system (although I have to admit I’ve been neglecting it a bit but there’s a few people at my GW that play it so I can generally get a game if I want).

I don't and won't. Somehow, the idea to me is a bit weak. Although I bet its a good system, I just don't find it very fun to play a game set in the world of LOTR, I'd rather play in the grim future of mankind.

meh LOTR isn't for everyone (just like 40k isn't for everyone) but I like it. It gives me the feel that I'm comanding an army (more so then 40k or fantasy).

Yeah i know what you mean..LOTR got me into the whole GW thing almost 5 years ago, i still love it to bits and have about 500 models..they've been under the bed for far too long, might dust them off if the 'ruin of arnor' sourcebook calls them to war again though :P

great game... great models. but it never really caught on in my area, so my local store has loads of models dating back to the days of the fellowship. which is a pity because i think LotR is GWs strongest set of rules at the moment (apart from most specialist games which are just going the way of the dodo)

Ive played all 3 games.

I played lotr the most.

But I just didnt like it i found it a chore more than fun to paint them. Also it was more hero orienatated. Also it was to slow. No units just 1 move by move.

I'm considering about getting a one squad/regiment/team of haradrim...Just to pass time since 40k can be very tedious when setting things up....

I play it a lot, i have my local loyal group of 5 people and we play every now and then. We play as much as we can and we even made our own supplement about the southlands exclusively.

I have to disagree with you there mate, the specialist games have in fact been growing in popularity over recent years, and what with the fact that the majority of those who played them when they first came out still do play them - especially bloodbowl which is far bigger in USA, Oz and Canada than it ever will be in Britain. I think that currently the specialist system which continues to grow in popularity the most is Inquisitor, which I myself have recently taken up.

But anyway, onto LoTR - i know for a fact that i'm getting it for xmas this year, i accidentally stumbled across a spare part from it on the kitchen table and realised what it was before my dad noticed i had it.
So yeah, i'm getting Mines of Moria tomorrow.
The reason for this is becuase in September, during a brief overnight stop in Nottingham, my dad and I went along to GW HQ, aka Warhammer World, (think thats 4 times i've gone there now). whilst browsing the store we got chatting with one of the staff for a while then he put as through a demonstration game from the MoM set to see what we thought of the game.
I'm looking forward to getting the set out and trying the rest of the battles in the book to get a better idea of how I feel towards the game - certainly i've always found the model releases nice.

Oh. And I rather fancy owning an Army of the Dead for a decent reason!

i've got a number of lotr models, mainly box sets my friends didn't want anymore!

i played in the last warbands campaign at my local gw, but dropped out basically after only 4 games because noone besides the staff were brave enough to try and take my isanguard warband...
(but then, having one of my uruk's being promoted to a berserker after one game didn't help!!! 3rd game, he was promoted to hero status and after that, noone could touch me!)

after four games, my warband looked like this;
uruk hai leader w/-1M penalty for a smashed leg...
berserker hero
2 uruk hai w/sword & shield
3 uruk hai w/orc bows
2 orcs
1 warg rider

even against the harad warband of 20 models, my badies just smoked them!
the only real challenge was against the gondor warbands because of their bloody armour! (i just couldn't roll a 5+ to save my life... )

cheers!

I really like the isenguard warbands because they get nasty extremely quickly and they just dont go down!!!

As far as in the regular games, ill take my gondor over uruk-hai most days because finally an evil army i actually outnumber!!!!!

hmm, I collected about 20 Uruk Hai, Saruman, and that ogre/troll thingy with the spear. I used to play against my friend, but I found it to be not as good as 40K in my opinion. Last time I stray away from the emperors light! 40K all the way for me!

I've been on and off it since the fellowship. I'm always more of a 40k player, but that's mostly because there are less restrictions in modelling and painting. E.g:
LOTR Player: ARAGORN NEVER WORE BLUE!
40k Player: Hey, nice Camo scheme mate, but why's it Orange and purple?
Ok, that only ever happened to me most likely. And yes, my Guardsmen have Orange and Purple Fatigues

The one thing that I like about LotR is that you can actually choose unit formations. I can take my Gondor and make a sheild wall, turn a wing of a unit, assume a wedge or a square. Since it is free form you don't have to use formations but you really get to see the point of certain true to life maneuvers and formations in the game.
The other realish thing that I dont really like at times but is romantic in idea is the tending to need 6's to kill. 'cause really a trained soldier in heavy armor and a shield is going to be hard to break down. The horrible rugby match that can be cause by a couple of turns of bad luck is just a little much to handle some times.
I do agree with the Hero centric buisness. I've lost to Imrahil every time I've played him. He is a weinus.
As far as painting goes I really like the chance that LotR gives me. I have a real life picture of every model to attempt an recreate. That is a very fun challenge to me expecially after painting green and yellow High Elves or multi-colored Ogre Kingdoms.

well, i don't play LotR (technically i don't even play 40k anymore since i can't remember the last game i had), but that doesn't mean that i wouldn't. however the only armies that appeal to me are the uruk hai and rohan, and even the horse lords i ain't too crazy about.

1. the missus. she always seems to be off work on the days that i could be playing ,eg veterans nights.
2. i haven't visited any of the local gw,s yet.
3. none of my armies are painted yet.
4. i'm broke
5. i'm lazy.

i'm not sayin it ain't, but before i can play i need the rules and an army, and before i can get that i need to convince the missus that she really doesn't need another set of matching shoes and handbag. its like trying to persuade the sun not to rise. you see my dialema(sp).

Don't turn to LoTR Yahoo! Stay with 40k!

Though saying that, I've had a couple of games with LoTR and found it quite enjoyable, perhaps at some point I should start a force... but it's going to be quite low on my 'To do' list, 40k and WFB have a higher priority for my money!
