moving on.... warp tavel isn't faster than lighyt but actually effects the time because of the warp. So effectively you could be going slower than a granny on a zimmerframe but you would still get there before light because time could be molving at 100 times normal speed.. technically that means its faster than light but it isn't faster than light it just takes less time to get there.
think about how many guardsmen and chapters there are. take away 100,000,000,000,000,000 guardsmen and youved only left a subsector unguarded. there are supposedly a million marinestake 200,000 and storm the galaxy beyond te eastern fringe get lysander to lead a teleport assault with every single terminator in this force, drop pod all the other marines and eject the guardsmen out the airlock and hope they dont burn up in the atmosphere so they can be used as cover when they land. reasonable. or virus bombs. they would work. i reckon the tyranid big beastie is actually just a planet. a massive planet with a mouth and eyes. lol its a giant intergalactic smiley.

Things to remember:

There is no home galaxy for the Tyranids. They are galactic nomads roving and hunting everything.

The hive mind exists in the warp, hence tyranid use of psykic powers.

Ok now to theorizing again...

The hive mind is so massive that no single human can comprehend it fully but it could be possible to read its commands to single fleets like the smurf's librarian is trying to do (or did, whatever) Destroying the whole thing...is not impossible but way out of any race's reach + Think of the things one would see when one looks into the Hive mind! Scenes of genocide on a massive scale, blood shed, unquenchable thirst and insatiable hunger...It'd drive a man mad!

sure out of any races reach....but what about several races reach. and not just about several races....what about all of the eldar race including the dead ones. not only that alkl eldar are psykers so all could be trained to be farseers.you could have several entire races and lots of dead generations of a race put together.... and besides the tyranids come from beyond the eastern fringe. and they must have come from somewhere. they cant just spawn as an entire race. although in GW's case maybe as they do... also why are all the newer races seemingly created due to rapid evolution? tau, tyranids, orks (technically), erm insert other races here.

Considering how little we know Tyranids might be one of the most ancient races in 40K...and who is to say that all the Tyranids are only invading THIS galaxy. They might be chowing down on a few.

All in all, I think there are more Tyranids than every race in this Galaxy combined, living AND dead (and thats an extra few trillion just there)- thats how large I believe the entire Tyranid 'race' to be.

i think if tyranids only act in a way that is beneficial to their own race then they wouldn't attack several galaxies as that would require more more resources. and besides i imagine that all tyranids have come to this galaxy seeing as they are a swarm. i mean look at bugs where the queen bee goes the hive is built. (can anyone tell i'm making this up as i'm going along to justify my argument?)

what if the "queen" bug isnt coming here what if the fleets that came here are just the food gatherers?
or the first couple of ants that lay down the scent line for others to follow
ever heard of driver ants they dont have one colony so to speak they are a nomadic ant race that eats all things in their path only setting up shop in one spot for days sometimes weeks until they have exhausted the food supply
then the whole colony moves again

But then multiply your ant theory by several billion or trillion- got a lot of 'scouts' going in different directions, some of them happen to have strayed into the Milky Way Galaxy but that doesn't mean ALL the scouts have...

Have you ever thought that they may have run away from something that was killing millions of them left right and centre and have stumbled upon the galaxy to survive.

Like ants there may be lots of them but you obviously dont watch the discovery channel as much as i do. lets say, Queen Ant sets up nest ants thrive population doubles or triples, then in the summer or hot weather the few female ants that the Queen hatched have grown wings and fly off to make a new nest for themselves. they thrive then in summer or hot weather that nest and the first one has these flying ants to go make more nests.
If the nids are anything like ants the entire race wont just up and leave where they are to help another nest as the queen of a nest is only interested in the nest she's in.
So yes there may be trillions of them BUT killing the 'flying ants' to say will keep our galaxy safe unless we get loads come at once then were screwed.

but with tyranids I doubt there is a 'nest' as they strip any biological matter they come across so any galaxy they've roamed through will be devoid of life- they're not going to hang around within nothing to consume.

ah well this is where the ant theory stops and my imagination takes over, consider this; the nests are the Tyranid Hive ships that would explain all the moving and why some Tyranid Hive Fleets will attack each other. Now i would think that the Tyranids are at a stage just after an ants nests first summer ergo the lack of a lot of Hive Fleets.
the only problem i see is when food eventually runs out they will start eating each other as is there nature.
They leave planets and such devoid of life then leave to find more food with the queen and nest following almost perfect evolution.

the whole colony moves around they dont dig holes they live on the surface in a living hive made up of other ants that form the walls
when they exhaust a food supply the colony breaks up moves and builds itself again
much like a hive ship

Pure speculation.

The milky way could be their second Galaxy? Their third?

The Tyranids could be fleeing their galaxy of origin after being driven out by what ever races existed there.

There is no stock pile of Tyranid warriors waiting to go into action anywhere. When not fighting they are in stasis traveling to the next galaxy, while in this state they're actually losing bio mass so when they pounce on a galaxy it is all or nothing. When a hive fleet is first encountered the LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND strategy is perfect because they'll starve...stasis uses bio mass but minimal amounts, dropping onto a planet takes massive amounts of the fleets bio mass stores and without gain...its a waste.

Consider the Nercons. No biomass to gain but deadly deadly foes...They have to fight eventually if the Tyranids go full scale.

bit riskier bit let one hive fleet at a time reach terra and hope that the emperors psychic power overrules the hivemind and their link is broken. if that fails all citizens of terra will die but not the emperor. coz hes in the palace which cant be broken in to.built by dorn. also billions of guardsmen (wouldnt make a difference, particularly if ther were bens), the entire grey knight chapter, all the sattelite defence turrets and terras own massive navy were all waiting by incase anything happened. if the emperors psychic abilty works then yay, move the golden throne towards the hive fleets. if not than i get rid of all terrans apart from the emperor . and house belisarius. cos theres 12 SW defending them.
