Default How far do you take your armies

Okay we are all great hobbyists in that we love to settle down with one army and run with it, but how far do we run?

I will tell you right now I am at about 3000 of pure steel legion models including a few tanks here and there :P 3500 if you want to include my Stormblade haha Though I think thats a little much considering that I will never play a 3.5k game. But we have to consider that Steel Legion models look kickass and I couldn't help myself. Though I am limiting myself to one 40k army, 1 WFB army, and a Warmachine army. I think thats fair... and sane...

So please list your armies and amounts, and tell us, just how far your going to boost up your lists!

I don't believe in limits. It upsets me to my very core that people don't even stick with armies anymore. Most people collect 1,500 in 40k and call it quits. I'm seeing a lack of commitment that is saddening. I have 6,000 points of Highelves and 6,000 points of my original Guard army; neither of them is completely done yet and they probably never will be. It doesn't matter to me that I only play 6,000 point games once or twice a year. The only thing that matters to me is that I can.
On a side note it is fun to be able to pick and choose smaller games out of my larger armies. Makes it fun and I can do stupid stuff.

haha totally thats the exact reasoning that I use. I am seeing a lack too, most people start an army, and end up hating the codex, so they move on.

Well after completeing an army list, which I have yet to do, seeing as I'm a new player, I think that it would be awsome to expand your model colection, your only limit being cash. Even if you will never be able to field your entire army at once, it will shure look cool!

More and more now-a-days I am leaning towards the opinion of you guys. This seems to confuse and upset my fiancee, but I enjoy converting, building the list, and painting my army (yes, i'm beginning to like my crappy painting skills) as much if not more than playing. Plus, I always have fluff for them, in my head if nothing else. And the army I build I want to match that.

mm i think i won't stop buying models, even if they don't fit, exactly, into neat army lists. i love converting...what else is there to say? haha although being a student [a college one no less!] i haven't that much money... -_______-

as for gaming, i aim for around 1.5k, then see how i feel about it, then decide. as for my DIY marines though, who will be sticking around for quite a while, i think i may go up to 3k...one day..........one day...

I dont normaly stop when I reach a certain points cost in an army. I just stop when i think i have achieved my goal of a goo Assaulty/ Balanced army. Thats probably why I have 2 4000 point armies, and about 2000 points of tyranids and i am still going.

Last option for me, mainly because I generally just buy models, then try to put them into some kind of coherant list.

None of my armies are actually ever finished! I dont make a limit for myself and every army is still open for me to get more of them!

i generally try and get to around 2k before starting on another army. for example, my first 40k army was space marines. did 2k of them, started on nids. did 2500 of them, started on chaos. did 3k of them, went back to space marines, and now they are 6 sisters of battle away from 3k. what to do now?
trying to hook up a trade of my old warhammer stuff for dark eldar and necrons. i like new armies
i rotate around with which ones i bring, but its fun being able to pick and choose the style you want to play. i may get the two new stuff and turn right around and pick up my nids again and rework them, cause the list i have now isnt really working. ill need more $$ though cause ill want to play a massive swarm army (120+ gaunts=expensive, bad paint job. im lazy)

I will carry on building up my army until i'm happy with it. No limits really to the amount of points... just build! I'm still on the same army and it's something like 1500 now. Alot of people stop there. My question is. WHY?!

Yea a lot of people stop at 1.5k because that is the most popular points limit, also 2k is very popular

i have a tendancy of starting to look at other armies when the one i'm working on reaches the 1500 - 2k mark, when it becomes playable. i never call any of my armies finished. ever. i just may not add to them for a while. i also tend to work on more than one army at a time, which is why none of my armies are fully painted. that and the pact that 40k terra consumes so much of my life.

im kinda new at this still...but for my bretonnian army, it stopped at 2000 points AND when I got at least one of every unit. If any of the local players besides the one guy who got me into all this stuff match my purchasing/painting power ill buy more.
Same with 40k, most of the others in our group are just starting out...so ill keep myself at 1500-2000 pt range I think for now

I don't think I have a set limit either. I will keep painting till I'm content, work on a different army, then come back and paint some more!

Although, while I'm only interested in collecting 3 armies (Guard, SoB, and Orks) some models are just so cool I want to buy and paint them!

Default limits?

Gee never thought about where I wanted to stop...first was just to get enough playables on the table...then it was,"I need more diversity" then it became an obsession...now it's just a matter of how much space I am willing to give to the pups and how much I really need to move around my place...LMAO

5000 for death world veternas or catachans
3000 for deamon hunters

the black templars have 2000 pts painted based and named thats the tourny army. the catachans and cadians are my project now and goin slowly at that. the inquisitor and his 15 man kill team is completely finished and i still have chaos commanders i wanna paint and some tyranids for converting. all the stinkin grey knights now have to be painted and 3 land raiders are on the painting block now

if i had enough money, i would probrobly just splurge and get a squad of every race just to paint em up n model em, or have some epic battle scenes (buy an army just to show it being demolished )

Yea I find that most people try to finish up their first army then move onto another one, whilst at the same time never abandoning the first army. I have gone through about 6 warhammer 40k armies whilst staying with my Steel Legion.

i think ill stop buyin 40k stuff once i have a full chapter of space marines, an entire splinter fleet, a full order of sisters of battle, a chapters worth of world eaters, and of course their acompanying BFG fleets.
then i move on to necromunda and inquisitor! mwahahahaha....
when i win the lottery...
