Input on my new SM chapter!

My chapter heralds from the Blood Angels, but has truly diverted on its own path.

The Emperor's Crimson Archons!

My boys in black and red prefer the purity of close combat, but the few that TRULY excel at ranged combat will be diverted to special weapons.

Theyll be beset by their own version of the black rage which threatens to take them not after having the signature dream of death and whatnot but during battle. I leave the specifics vague until someone asks me to fill in the blanks, then ill put all my cards on the table.

Hopefully my pics give you enough insight into what im designing one step at a time. Also youll probably notice my use of lots of power weapons, give me the 4-1-1 on those as well as one day i hope to learn to play the table top and field these guys in the emperors name!

I love the paint scheme!

Do you have the rules? If you don't pick those up right away! you seem to have enough models to start playing at the Combat patrol level... so you can try out the rules with that. I'm sure your local GW/Hobby Shop should have someone willing to help you through the rules.

As for powerweapons, very good against armies with high armor saves (read: SM, CSM, Necrons, Sisters of Battle, and Inquistion), Powerfists are really good but they've become so expesnive (points wise) now... still, you'll need them if you want to be most Close Combat... best anti-tank weapons that you'll get for CCW.

As another note... make sure that most of the Special weapons you take are Meltas or flamers! Meltas are assault weapons so you can charge into combat with with them and they are also good anti-tank weapons. Flamers are perfect anti-horde weapons, and cheap enough to warrant taking them even if you never actually use them.

Also, you'll want some rhinos to put all those footsloggers in! Space Marines are very slow without some form of speedy upgrade. Bikes, Assault Marines, Rhinos, Drop Pods, and Deepstriking are you best friend if you want to get into Close Combat! Speed is the key!

Watch out for fast shooty armies like the Tau... never fought them myself but they are supposed to be impossible to catch if they use a lot of tanks...

If you do play with rhinos and the like, you might find yourself low on models... make sure you have some way to defen against hore armies like the Imperial Guard and the Nids... this is where flamers come in handy.

DREADNOUGHT! I've loved them ever since I first built one in Dawn of war... and the blood angels get the Furisco... which means better melee!

Consider getting at least a predator with lascannons for some ranged anti-tank fire power, it might be worth it.

BTW brain means the Blood Angels Codex... not the full rulebook, you can't download that... well... legally at least.

Truth be told ive only been painting for about....... 3 or 4 months. I mentioned it in my intro but i did alot of looking around for painting tips, for pro strategies, and spent alot of time on the UK GW site looking at the pro painted models for EVERY race just to see what different paints mold different colors. Its kinda hard to see how those details make there way into just red/marines but i tried to apply them with my librarian and chaplains! I do however employ the use of the space marines paint guide more for reference and how to paint human faces because MY chapter isnt featured in that painting guide, even though it should be!! When i sold my ultramarines on ebay, a few of the buyers asked if i did commisioned jobs/requests and i told em not commercially but if they could work something out id do what i could, or course they wanted crazy lhuge jobs like a full company of space marines and they would pay for the finished product, which i had to respectfully decline because im a poor college student and dont have the $cha-ching$ to invest in that much that fast lol.

On a different note, THANK YOU, for the input into my marines combat scheme! I appreciate the input on my power weapon usage, ive always liked the way power weapons were portrayed in the novels so i had to gravitate towards them when converting my marines. Also thank you on the melta/flamer tip, seeing as how there is only 2 models that i have equipped with either of those! Ill stick to only running around with those 2 special weapons, also i was thinking of creating Devastator squads or in my chapters case "Armageddon Squads". Would i want to emphasize those weapons in a devastator squad (flamers/meltas) ?

As for my death company colors, seeing as how its HELL trying to get ahold of one because the seller in my town barely holds enough SM stuff (but loves having orks/chaos crap EVERYWHERE) im thinking WHEN i get them, ill have to put a different color i have yet to feature in any of the other marines. It my chaos black/scab red/ Brazen Brass/ and a silver color of some type possibly boltgun metal or mithril silver any input on a fourth color for my death company is also good!

Thanks again for the words of encouragement, and i noticed that the chapter symbol wasnt visible anywhere on any of the models because i didnt feature the right shoulder so i went and painted it up real quick, the symbol is the black sun with the blood drop in the center. The black sun is symbolic of their home world because the sun in their star system is eclipsed at all times from their chapters homeworld and the blood drop because they are blood angel heraldry.

Also quick question, what are the rules on a space marine holding his bolter rifle with one hand instead of two? does it just count as a bolt pistol? Is that a violation or something? Also what is the ruling on a space marine holding 2 melee weapons at once and having a sidearm strapped to his leg? Reason i ask is i want to make my jump-pack troops my chapters pre-terminator elite force and i want them to be the most bad ass close combat shock troops that i can make them.

So i took your suggestion to heart sir and got started right away here they are, the latest and greatest, the first ranged weapon dedicated troops of the crimson archons! You are the king masterofweirdness and i may have more questions for you in the future but please feel free to give me more input!

A real nice color red you used. Very smooth and clean painted mini's, outstanding work. How many coats did you do for the red, and how watered down was your paint? Outstanding work, good luck with the rest of your army.

To get the red smooth, what i do is i get some paint from the bottle and dab it onto the cap lip (citadel paint standard paint well bottle thingy). then i dip my fine brush in water, scrub out the paint, keep the water in the bristles and then swirl it in the paint. I couldnt tell you what the #:# would be because i just go by vision, but if i had to estimate it id say a ratio of 3:1 paint to water maybe, all i know is that for the major colors i dont dry brush but i do this *liquid paint* form and it gets everything pretty well as long as i stay in the lines. And no its not a washing technique because i pretty much put one to two coats of the paint on and its good to go!

Also if anyone out there can help me, im currently working on some scout snipers, and well id lke to stick with black leather satchels and whatnot but i feel that leaving their capes black is just lazy, so i was wondering if anyone has any good tips or advice on painting those sniper capes cuz its just one of those things id like to master.

Finally, i finished the Sarg. i was painting in the faces tut i posted and another melta gunner, Sarg got converted with commander plasma pistol/ Dark angels power mace and the melta is a chaos melta that FINALLY got put to GOOD use *wink wink*!
