i meant: i deploy my guys in less-than optimal places if placing them in a better place would be treacherous to their health

im not that bad to move terrain during setup!

ah! oops! my mistake then

well, usually i'll bite the bullet and simply rely more on my insanely good periferial vision to spot any little miscreants and give them a good, hard 'evil stare' to try and discourage them from even thinking about coming near me when i'm playing
especially in a tournament, i still try and play to win - even despite my absymal luck! therefor i always make sure that my deployment is as sound as can be, even if it does mean risking my models...

cheers!

I haven't posted for a bit (birthdays take time) but now I'm back to my true hobby- posting on 40k terra. So I thought I'd start here.

One of the most annoying things I find is when people get so touchy about measuring distances. For example, I was playing someone who was shooting through terrain with a Leman Russ. We were playing area terrain, but he started to argue loads when he realised he wasn't in. It was pretty obviously out, but he had to go pick up the tape measure and try to get it in umpteen times (you know the old tricks of the tape measure). I've made a mental note not to play him again.

People running off with my minatures really irritates me too. Doesn't matter who they are, if I haven't given you permission, you don't touch then!!

welcome back!

thats happens here too, and the annoying thing is its usually your opponent trying to show you that youre out of range. after half a dozen blatant bashes against the front of the vehicle in question with the end of the tape measure, the vehicle invariably end up out of range.

and i end up furious

grrr

well, the SIGAFH is explained in post #27 basically it's a guard army that is lascannons, plasma guns and 3 leman russ tanks!

the 'cheese cannon' army as i call it is the smurf army that min/maxes to include as many assault cannons as is possible.
usually it looks along the lines of:
3 units of 2 tornado speeders (heavy b & cheese cannon!)
2 units of 6 scouts w/bolt pistols & ccw's
hq in termie armour w/4-man termie retinue including 2 assault cannons
as many 5 man termie squad w/2 assault cannons as pts permit...

absolute worst variation of this list is when it's also using captain lysander as the hq!!! basically the idea principle is that you're relying on the rending to do all the major damage. however, because the high rate fire, this force is also pretty nasty vs hoards too!
as you can see, this isn't a fun army to face

and welcome back killermoose

cheers!

thankfully at the Gamers Sanctuary where i play down in Hattiesburg there is no problem with stealing, maybe misplacing and the such but no stealing and to avoid tape measure bashing and cheating we just use a lasgun (laser pointer) that can measure distance and Greg (the store owner) is the only one that uses it.

but uh back to stuff that irritates me.

Kids who come in during the middle of the game and start asking a whole bunch of questions.

also the guy who know every rule and has designed his army to beat anything and then when your Bassies destroys his land raider and the chaiplan and space marines inside and starts complaining about how you cheated and all that. especially when its on the first turn.

Also what irritates me is one of the Space Marines players at the Gamers Sanctuary painted and designed all of his models to look like star wars. Space Marines are all white with black visors, Land Speeders have tie fighter wings on the side and the dreadnaughts look like the chicken walker from the ewok battle in what i think was the 3 movie

and usually at most tournaments, again you're not allowed to fudge with the terrain...

worst case of theft i've ever heard about; my mate from the uk studio had about 7 or 8 of his genestealers nicked right off his desk! he was touching them up/re-basing them as he was coming over for tournament.
sadly he only had enough time prior to his flight to paint up a couple new 'stealers so it did affect his game play slightly

we all felt so bad for him that i think we bought him a few too many 'sympathy beers' friday night!lol.

cheers!
aww :[ way to support a sad friend though, even if it's in the form of a drink..haha

dang that seems kind of crazy, messing up deployment to minimize the possibility of stealing..

honestly when i actually start playing 40k [as opposed to just converting, collecting, and buying] i'll try to only play with people i trust..sheesh.
sad what some people do.. sigh

another thing i really hate - bystandards who try and play your army for you
now, i don't mind a friend maybe offering me a bit of advice as usually they have the benifit of hindsight! but compleat strangers trying to tell me, "are you mad? you know you can't deep strike with guardsmen, only marines can do that!" just makes my blood boil!
or else they see you moving your units and then they try to offer the idea that, "you're playing guard. you need to stand and shoot because that's what guard do."

i know my army. i know what it's capable of. if i make a mistake and i lose the game because of it, well then it's my fault for being thick! hopefully i can learn from that mistake...
but honestly, i would never try and butt into someone else's game and try to play it for them - especially when i don't their army the way they do!

cheers!

haha! i know a great story fron 2nd edition.

My best friend and i entered an indie store tournament - i with my beloved nids and he with his wacky orks. it was 3000 points (i guess that would be the equivalent of 2000 nowadays).

i was knocked out early on due to much vortex grenade/vortex psychic power hating (my hive tyrant was killed by a vortex grenade in all 4 1st round games!). my friend done well and went up all the way to the finals against another tyranid army. the mission was take and hold and the tyranids got the second turn.

my firend was doing really well and was pretty much wiping the floor with the tyranid guy, when i sauntered across the table (after getting bored playing wipeout on the stores PS) casually i commented that all the tyranid guy had to do to win was to fly high with his gargoyles and come down on top of the objective in his last turn. havinf imparted my littke bit of wisdom i went off to play wipeout again, leaving my mate very pissed off.

the nid player won and my friend hasnt yet forgiven me even though this was almost 9 years ago!

i have a nasty habit of doing things like that, and, especially in tournaments, this can be a bad thing. i cant help it thogh: im just a nice guy who wants to help!

hmm. i guess were i play there isnt a problem of people stealing others models. if im going to touch someones models, I
1- ask first.
2-not during a game, if they are dead or not, cause its distracting!
i also expect others to treat me with the same respect
my personal horror story happened to me last saturday
i was test playing my 3000 pt list using some of the stores army. well the dreadnaught was shot down 2nd turn and i placed it to the side. a kid, about 9-10 walked up and grabbed it. just grabbed it! the stores model! i asked him to put it back down, and he did. when i turned my back, he went for my converted lord. now ive spent at least 6 hours total on this model alone, so he was going to die. i got it back, and told him not to touch anyones stuff unless he asks.
couple minutes later he mustve gone after the dreadnaught AGAIN, cause when we started another game, it wasnt there! i saw him across the store, holding it, and my eyes turned completly red. i whipped out my chain axe and offered his head to khorne.
no of course not. i went over and grabbed it from him, and told him, again, rather 'insistantly' to ask if hes going to touch someone elses model, to ASK first. well then his MOM got involved, and i was thinking "oh come on. youre sons a moron and you need to back the !!!! off!" wanted to say it, but no. so then she said that i shouldnt be yelling (which i wasnt) at her son, and while she was ranting, i just turned around, walked back over to the table, and started the deployment for my next game, completly ignoring her and her horror of tzeentch. she got all huffy and they both left. the store manager, my opponent, and half of the people in the store started cracking up. i won both games too, so all in all it was ok, and nothing got broken
