Irritating

Since the nuissance tatics has been hijacked about little bratty kids and the such and the moderators where getting pretty mad about off topicness i decided to open a new thread for that kind of descusion and stories.

ill start it off.

On one of my rare visits to the Springfield Mall GW store in Virginia i was watching a game between a teen with Smurfs, i didnt know much about the game then and the marines were blue so im assuming that they were smurfs, and an adult male playing Eldar. The smurfs land raider was beating the snot of eldar guardians left and right. he was just tearing through them. so the game is going on and the land raider has just tank shocked an banshee squadron and is near the end of the board. the teen is concentrating else where after the tank shock and a little kid, who i think was the adult males son, walks by says "wow nice tank" picks it up looks at it from different angles and "accidentaly" drops it. the land raider broke in pieces. the teen was obviously upset and the adult male acted like he was sorry. however the only one to tell the kid anything was the teen. this lead me to believe that the old man and kid where in cahoots and had planned this out ahead of time.

looking forward to hear more stories from yall.

Wow what a rigged deal I must say.

1. I would have been pissed off, and would have exploded on the person who had done that.

2. place the tank pieces and finish the game to kick the guys butt!

Jeez thats pretty bad, i didnt think people would actually do something like that just to win. I would have flipped! And probably smashed him in the face with the remains of the land raider.

mind you it was only my OPINION that the kid and the adult may have been in cahoots. yeah the teen was pretty upset complained to the store owners and they have a picture of the kid on the not allowed in store wall.

yep, nothing worse than that. Had a guy in the college gaming society that would pick up models that were still in the game. Drove me crazy, because it starts a fight with your opponent about where the model was, cus we all know that 1" can make all the difference. And whats worse, he wasnt a kid. Sadly the society has pretty much given up tabletop gaming for yugio.

much more irritating i find are those parents, (usually the mother), who simply turn to little toe rags and tell them to, "give that nice person their toy back now, okay sweetie!"
drives me up the wall, literally! especially when the mother has an older child who actually plays fantasy/40k as you'd think her older one would throw quite a few fits if the younger rugrat keeps running off with/breaking their models!

overall kids are only as intelligent/respectful as their parents teach them to be... and unfortunately, ignorance and stupidity are spreading faster than the speed of light. it's the new global pan-epidemic!

worst loss i've yet suffered was my poor converted sniper... little kids should never be allowed into the gaming area unless the parent holds their hand as far as i'm concerned!

well, this one time at an RT
a kid was with his 'rent checking out some PS games i think. not 40k.
he looks onto the table where we(me and opponent) were setting up for a game, picks up one of my battle suits, examines it.
his parent was like "ok that's enough now give it back to the nice young man"
and the kid said no, and the parent said it again and reached for it and he started crying and going "WAHHH I WANT IT ITS MINE" and held it closelyand tightly and tried running away with it.

irritating:

the maltese nationals a few years back. an alaitoc (pathfinder-heavy) army facing off iron warriors in the finals. the eldar player destroys two iron warrior units before the game even started. and then... the daemon prince bit the dist at the hand of some lucky disruption table rolls. the iron warrior player, a beard whose only agenda was winning (and making the worst conversions ever, by the looks of it), threw his daemon prince across the hall, which shattered into more than its constituent parts upon hitting the wall. he stormed out of the hall swearing his head off, leaving all his stuff behind, he was never seen again!

and this is why i've stopped playing in most grand tournaments/conflicts... it's simply a game of 'who can build the most gimiky, over-powered and boring list possilbe' type of meta-game...
armies that keep me away from most tournaments include;
- slaanesh siren daemon bombs (btw, anyone caught using this list by my own gaming group will be marched out the front door, down to the street corner and have their tounge frozen to the stop sign - it's THAT beardy!!!)
- min/maxed 9 pathfinder/ranger alitioc eldar
- seer 'congress' ulthwe
- 9 obliterators & 4 defiler iron warriors
- khorne armies built using the 1st codex printing
- tau crisis suit army of doom
- 12+ cheese cannon smurf armies
- SIGAFH

granted that's most likely not a compleat list, but for me personally, i like a game to be fun and challenging for *both* players...
sadly though, it seems most large tournaments bring out the worst in a good number of attendies and thus most games become a contest of 'who gets first turn'.

No-one touches my stuff-period,even GW staff.
Ive been known to growl at people before for looking a bit too hard lol!
Ive seen someones mate do the "thats a really nice model" tactic pick it up and put it down in a different place (slightly closer or further away as the situation demands)-If you aint playing you dont touch the table!

wow touchy.

however i can see where your coming from though. during the game no one touches anything on the table. they can look they can take pictures and some other stuff; but no ones touches anything.

but when the game is not in progress ill usually set them up for display and stand near them and let people look at them and ask questions

I know it sounds touchy and harsh but Ive had to many figures ruined by inquisitive (well meaning) fingers.
Would you be allowed to touch an 'Eavy Metal miniature-no, I have poured hours of care and attention into my army and just because its not up to the standards of the uber professionals doesn't mean that people can just pick it up-sorry.
What if they dropped and broke it-they would apologise but would that repair the damage-no and if it was truly broken I doubt most people (kids) would be able to/offer to pay for a replacement!
Also I have had figures stolen from the board edge-now thats annoying!
I may sound bitter but its experience that has caused it!

happens all the time with my guardsmen due to them all having berets!... in an open tournament type venue, my 'dead pile' is now about the halfway point of the little 'side lines' (as we call it!) area for both players to keep their army lists/'dexes/rules and such!!! it wasn't fun constently running down little snot rags who had swiped poor corprol butler for the 100th time!
heck, at astro toronto last month i had four different kids try and walk off with my converted culexus assassin!

while i will let friends and tournament judges handel my models for a better look, they;
a) must ask my permission!
b) if i see them holding any part other than base, then i ask them rather firmly to please put it back down!
and any kids that are running around near a table i'm playing on, get my foot inserted somewhere slightly unpleasent! one of my mates once lost his entire 1700pts space marine army to a 9-year old kid that was goofing-off and running wild... it was truely sad seeing such a beautifully modeled and painted army being swept up with a broom and dust pan...
i'm determined that none of my armies will ever suffer such a horrifying fate!

On the Eldar release day at my local store, one of the staff noticed that one of the Striking Scorpions had gone walkabout.A quick phonecall to the local independant (who also deals in second hand models) to inform them and an hour later a kid walks in with a miniature he wants to sell - one very well painted, brand new Scorpion-worst thing is the kid had the nerve to come back into the GW store later (we think he was gonna try again)!
Personaly I would carry out the Emperors justice if I had any choice!

it wasnt the no one touches thing i had talked about it was the whole growling issue. however thats just funny.

stitch. seeing as how all your models are constantly getting stolen and what now i would deffinetly think about insurance; either that or carry your own version of a lasgun to all the games.

lol especially if the emperor's justice comes in the form of an uppercut...some people just are so messed up. well i have sort of a story for this, but it's unrelated.

so there's this guy at the factoria/seattle battle bunker who works there and my gosh he is kind of grumpy all the time. once i went to admire his FW valkyrie or something and he had a TON of ig dudes lyin around [he was busy in a 2000 point game like 2 feet away] and he turns around and gives me this death look, as if he'd break me in half if i had touched or stolen his stuff


yea made me not ever want to go to that GW ever again...haha. honestly, trust people when you meet them for games [unless they are obviously jerks, then just don't play with them] but be wary of little robbers.

i'd hate to assume the worst of everyone the instant i saw them [cough cough dude at GWseattle cough]

what do you mean by these? just wondering...hahaha so i can avoid them

honestly, i don't even think a game is a game if either party has an overwhelming advantage/argue over the stupidest things/ THROW THEIR DAEMON PRINCES AND SWEARlol/ etc. gosh, if 40k is gonna bring out so much bad from players i'd rather just play pick upgames with people i trust, sheesh..

however we can all see from where these over protective hobbyist come from. we invest all this time and money into these models. we slave over a desk trying to find the right mixture of colors to paint that powersword. we carve amazing additons on to them with green stuff. we perform works of art that rival the mona lisa. and then to have some child spawn of khorne run rampant and steal or destroy the preciouse armies we have worked so hard on. i have spent a year on my ig and the dh termies i have and if any kid even thought of damaging one they would never find the body; especially the termies that i spent 55 bucks on.

Wow. I have not heard of people who have the plain old greasy black soul to up and steal a model. I have seen models get broken at another's hands, fortunately none of mine. I do that myself :/

One of my buddies has a girlfriend who has earned the title, "The Great Destroyer." She's pretty clumsy, and lhas accidentally caused usall (but mostly him) much model grief.
She has damaged one of my sentinels, and one of my basilisks, one clubmember's assault marines, and another guy's Daemon Prince.
One top of this, she has broken her boyfriend's Nightbringer (the left arm is just plain missing, and actually destroyed dice.

Her greatest accomplishment, however was the heat damage she visited upon his entire Necron army. Before the two of them went on vacation last summer, she left his army in the back window of her car. the poor guys in the top foam tray (scarab swarms and flayed ones), now have bases melted so that opposite sides almost touch

ive had a bit of a reputation for having a death touch, especially concerning models we use for roleplaying (usually lotr ones). i once touched sauron, and he literally fell apart. we later discoverd that the idiot who glued it didnt clean it first, and the superglue had glued the grease on the model, rather than the model itself.

still, at the time, it didnt do my reputatin good. actually, ive probably broken more of my models than other peoples (i tend to take extra care with other peoples models )
