| how is it that characters in the 40k books seem to have outrageously fast reflexes, particularly in dan abnett books? it does seem cool but it is slightly odd..... eisenhorn seems nigh on untouchable and deflects several bullets from vessorine janissaries, las bolts from quixos guards and several others. in ravenor, maybe ravenor rogue, the cognitae acountant deflects bulllets and deflects several on full auto. gaunt deflects las rounds in sabbat martyr and other books and im going to stop rambling there. on to the reasoning.... eisonhorn has a carthaen force sword which can effectively move to defend eisenhorn eg quixos and kharnagar. the blade moves to defend him before eisenhorn even realises quixos is in front of him. gaunt has no special powers and blocks las rounds which are effectively focused light travelling 100m maximum at 300,000,000 miles/second (guessing, its been a while since i needed to know) that would mean his reaction time must be 100 divided by 300,000,000 = 0.00000003 recurring seconds. he would have had to react and have moved his sword in front of himself to block the round. that would mean he is outrageously fast. seeing the person aim and guessing where the round will hit will only block so many....... any explainations?

| Banned | its called suspension of disbelief and in my opinion its done pretty poorly in a lot of GW fiction, especially since the novels are tryignt to convey characters and creatures that have established abilitiy scores, equipment and backgrounds/histories. it irks me somewhat to see established canon and history thrown out of the window by writers like Abnett and his buddies. | Banned | QFT ad infinitum and i feel sorry, in ways, for the people who know nothing otehr than the BL novels and consider that stuff to be canon, where, at least in my opinion, its just an interpretation of canon, or poetic licence, if you will.i remember the days when people were excited by space marines being 6 ft tall. nowadays its like a contest of who can find the source that states their heaight as being the 8 feet or more or whatever. oh well. ![]() |
