my club needs help

with our bylaws. we cannot think of much, and i need SOMETHING to present the school council, so i've come to my dearest friends for help.

this is what we have so far (note: the club is called "table-top strategy games club")

$7 entry fee
2.5 GPA
new member has to have an intrest in tactics

another note is that to avoid pissing off the council by calling the club "warhammer club" (which sounds violent) i made the name different and expanded the games we could play.

1) is this THIS years or next years club? if its this years your hurtin buddy as most of the school year is gone. Next year we can work and deal!!

2) I have to have a C average and pay $7. I already have an intrest or else I would go to the chess club. But what does my $7 get me?? a trip to the zoo? a soda at break? or a awesome table to play on with professional terrain? If it is the last one and Next school year, once again we can deal!!!

3) you might want to think about students that cannot buy an army themselves. If you don't mind SM and IG And it is next year we can deal!!

I like you Marcus, not sure why, but I do. If you get me some more info on what is going on and what EXACTLY you need help with I can hook you up. If your setting up a club for your school to play table top games, and you want to iinclude anyone interested in your school, I can help make it very cool for you! um.. munkey, its both this year and next year, i started this in ther middle of the year and no one told me we needed bylaws.

thanks to munkeys efforts, i have come up with the following, i am letting these bylaws be judged by the members of terra so that i can ammend/add anything that seems appropriate.

BYLAWS OF THE TABLE TOP STRATEGY GAMES CLUB OF TITUSVILLE HIGH

ARTICLE 1: name

The name of the club will be the tabletop strategy games club of Titusville high school

ARTICLE 2: objectives

The objects of the tabletop strategy games club (henceforth mentioned in this article as TTSGC) will be:

- To provide a learning experience about tactics and strategy for the students of Titusville high school in a fun and productive way


- To encourage those wishing to learn about tactics and strategy to try as many different ways as possible, including tabletop games.

Article 3: membership

Those students from Titusville high school wishing to join the TTSGC must have a 2.5 GPA average.

Those wishing to join must also pay a $7 USD entry fee to enter. This entry fee allows the purchase of a starter set for the game picked by the president of the club after a club-wide vote.

ARTICLE 3: election of officers

When deemed necessary (such as when the population of the club reaches a certain amount of members), the president will hold a meeting for election of officers. The following appointments will be held to vote:

Treasurer: the club member appointed to hold on to the funds generated by the club, usually a dual role taken on by the president.

Club sergeant: the club member appointed to keep watch on all other members for misconduct during meetings. The club sergeant will report directly to the president of the club, who will deal with these infractions.

ARTICLE 4 annual dues

Annual dues will be seven USD for all members.

So Far they look good.

If you want to broaden the spectrum of people that this might appeal to I would involve the modeling and painting aspect some how. Get all those Hippy Artists from your classes involved and they might get hooked. I have plenty of friends who have a few thousand points in multiple armies and only throw down once every few months and they don't care about winning. They just like to see their pretty stuff shoot other pretty stuff on a pretty table.

Marcus you could still hang on to Servos idea IF you painted in the art dept of your school. they would have drapes and such for protection.

1. i had talked to one, but he had a sports team already, so he couldn't be a sponser, plus he changed jobs about a month after that. so i went with my english teacher.

Will everything be stored at the scholl, or will you bring it in each meeting?
Are members reqired to have anything or will the club itself provide needed materials?
Is thePresident alos an elected position, or is it static until you graduate?

After such time as the club has 10 or more members an election of Club Officers shall be performed during a normal clubbmetting focusing on the election of Officers and thier duties for those appointments. The following Officer stations will be held for vote by club members:

Treasurer: Member appointed to hold funds generated by the club. Member will also be responsible for tally of said funds and provide access to funds when needed for purchases made for the club. Until such time as ten members have been obtained by the TTSGC the President of said club will be responisble for this duty.

Sergeant: Member appointed to keep watch on all members concerning misconduct during meetings. The Sergeant will report directly to the President of the club, who shall be responisble for alll matters concerned with the infractions reported.

Dues collected shall be used for the expansion of the club including , but not limited to the purchase of gaming accessories, club projects, gaming supplies, new strategy games, etc

that was the next problem i had. since celestial has finsihed off the first, and it looks perfect, this is the next and (hopefully) final problem facing us. writing a small paper or such that will convince the council that this is a non-violent game that we wish to play (we've chosen warhammer as first game)

but explain that the "fluff" or story of the game is soaked in violence but no more than chess or football is
the point of the club is to draw members in to a safe and friendly setting to play a game that can teach them critical thinking, quick response and the "hobby" aspect of it will help improve manual dexteriy and hand eye coordination

Here is my 2 1/2 cents.

If you want to appeal to the staff at your school. You may want to start with a more historical approach.

There are plenty of games out there which have a good historical value. Since I am picturing your club being small at first. I think you should look into games which would teach a little something (just to show the staff it has merit). Plus at a $7 entry fee, you may not have enough money generated to buy anything substantial.

My suggestion here is to try a game produced by Avalon Hill called "Thrid Reich"
It has historical merit to it and if the staff ever want to see what you guys are up to, then they can look at the initial game and see how it has an educational value along with teaching strategy.

It is also a game which can be played with up to 5 players. This is also something which takes a loooong time to play (that is the down side).

Here would be my pitch to the staff.

Rise and Decline of the Third Reich is a classic "grand strategy" wargame covering the European theater of WWII. Huge in scope, players take on the roles of all the major national powers and can simulate the entire war effort from 1939 until the end (often isn't until 1946). A favorite game of many because of an excellent balance between politics and military might and it gives players a chance to try things that did not happen historically to see if they might have worked better (e.g., Germany invading Spain). Definitely not for the novice gamer, the rules are intricate and there are many factors for players to deal with: resources, unit production, negotiation, and of course strategic warfare. This is an introductory game which will kick off the club.

Now I am not going to write the entire thing for you. I believe it would undermine anything you may learn from this experience. This is a good lesson on how to con ... errr I mean, how to word things as to cast a favorable light on your endeavours.

Please excuse the long post, but I have to do things like this on a daily basis. I have to submit requests and why my ideas would work to CEOs and VPs all the time. Its all about how you present an idea. You can go with "I want to start a club that plays wargames and teaches strategy" or you can go with a historical angle and work your way in from there. Once the door opens, you are in and warhammer soon follows.
