Not crazy about the Vespid models... alternatives?

I would like to include Vespids in the Tau army I am doing, but I am just not crazy about the Vespide models.

Anybody have any (non-kroot) suggestions as to good replacement models? (It can be from any line)

umm may i suggest usint the tau models and giving them the space marine jetpacks and some form of close combat model or emperor childrens sonic blasters.

I know you said no kroot, but you could get some kroot and glue some Tyranid Garoyle wings to the back. Then paint it all blue like the official vespid.

For the weapons, well I supoe you could use a cut down Pulse rifle. I dont play Tau, but i think that may work.

Or, you could take a mix... Tau armor, tyranid gargoyle wings, and use the weapon (not the tube thingy that looks like a Gatling gun) but the other one) off the stealthsuits! A cool variation could be to use a pathfinder head for the strain leader, or find some other more suitable bit, as you will need to model that helm!

i like fire warriors with jet packs...thats what I'd do.

i agree, fire warriors with jetpacks, pulse carbines would be the way to go.

hmm...i kinda think cag's idea would be interesting. it doesn't look too much like the tau this way...maybe do a bit of modelling or something, add GS for the mind controlly thing on the strain leader's head or something ? :]

As for using Tau minis with jet packs ,remember Vespids are not Tau .
They are in fact another species all together.
I think Cagarner's idea is the best one of the lot.
I agree,the GW minis are very two dimensional.

well he can use tau and just use the count as models. i dont believe that he cares which race or even model is used as long as its not vespid or kroot.

The only alternative I can see is DROP THEM. They dont make much sense to have. Their stats are nothing that a tau unit cant cover, or for that matter do better. Additionaly I never see anyone use them and only heard bad things about them. They are too in the middle really. They dont have anything that really makes them shine.

i think steellegioncpt has a good point, although their speed can be handy at times. vespids are still ugly too...lol. actually cag's idea is decent, but the kroot with wings may be confused with something from the kroot mercenary army. there are units that are exactly kroot with wings somewhere in there...i think ? :]

Yup. Vulture Kindred. However, the tau armor (they are allied with the tau) a funky face, and kroot wings would be cool.

Thanks for all the reps. I founds some cool VOID models that I thought would be cool actually. Archangels. (since the TAU are for my wife anyway) They could be humans that joined the Tau.

Not sure if that's what we will go with, but we have the models anyway, so we might just go ahead and use them. Or at least the wings, since my wife isnt entirely crazy about having humans in her Tau army. (not really sure why.. Im pretty sure she herself is human... last I checked) Maybe put some beatmen heads (minus horns) on tau bodies with the Archangel wings or something to that effect.

These Archangels... Do there wings come in separate bits, or could you send me a link to them.
