The Basilisk probably is based off of a real world artillery piece. Ok, military nuts please don't lynch me for this, but I think that the Basilisk is a howitzer cannon. (am I speaking out my again?)

It's pretty similar to a German 'Hummel' 88mm Gun Carriage but it doesnt have the armor.

I think it looks more like this:

This is a French self propelled 155mm artillery gun

It would not surprise me to find out that GW ahd based the bassalisk (hope thst the correct spelling) on a real life tank, gun placemnet. i mean, just look at the land raider? looks alittle too much like a MK1 tank, dosent it?

That's the biggest petpeev I have with tanks in 40K, either the cannon barrels are absurdly long, or they're unrealistically short and stubby. This choice of polar opposite extremes must be stopped!

Hey, the ones on the Predator (and maybe even the BaneBlade) are pretty proportionate

And the basie is way shorted than what the russians pulled off over there :P

I agree, the Predators and Baneblades have appropriately scaled cannons, which is one of the reasons I picked Space Marines.

the pred autocannon looks ugly though. And the "new" demolisher looks crappier
than the old one.The only "normal" looking IG tank is the styges VII vanquisher tank, mars pattern demolisher, and 3rd ed exterminator and demolisher IMO.

The basilisk gun reminds me of this:

And the chassis is whatever they based the chimera off of.

paris gun anyone? german WW1 weapon. thats a person beside it, yes. 240mm, but the shell was going 5 times the speed of sound when it left the barrel and would go over 130km. excellent terror weapon, a precursor to the V-series rockets.

Of course they lost. They gave up and let the Germans establish a government. Very funny quote from Mock The Week: "Things you'd never hear a French person say." "Of course, it looked hopeless but we still kept fighting."

Back on topic, Dan, what kind of monstrosity is that thing! It's HUGE. Still, does that thing really look like a Bassie to you?

Ya they could only shoot it like 5 times or something b/c the barrel would wear out. IMO a complete watse of resources they could have used to build a couple more Panthers.
