| ex Chaplain Shadow ![]() | I was wondering, I am still learning about the rules and strategies for the TT game. Now you all know I am making a Ranged SM Chapter. Now my question is are transports good for shooty armies or just rerally used for Close Combat armies so they can get as clase as possible tot he enemy? |

| The Omnissiah ![]() ![]() | Though you could use a transport to deliver a squad to where your line is weakest. Dont want all that delicate artillery getting hacked at. An assault squad in a Landraider Crusader would be perfect for that job. Keeping the enemy squad in combat until you can alter your stratagem to combat them. Infact a full blast from a Landraider Crusader and then an assault squad charging in is normally more than enough to stop the enemy in its tracks.

| If you play scenarios always have at least one transport. Take the mission Recon for example. If you footslog across an open field you can take on turn to stop and fire at long range and make it into your opponents deployment zone. You'll need a transport. It can almost be argued that transports are best for shooting armies since you increase your rapid fire range to 24".

| in my shooty SM list i use a normal land raider w/ command squad to plug lines/help out. the normal land raider, as opposed to the LRC, has longer ranged weapons. the LRC has to wait until the enemy is within 24'' to shoot, cause i would imagine as a shooty army you want to sit back n plug away. then the LR can scoot the command squad to any trouble areas once the enemy hits your lines. razorbacks are great anchors for small tac squads. i would especially use them with techmarines if you have alot of vehicles then if one is damaged you can get the techmarine over there quickly. |

And for a 'quick response' type devastator squad, you can go no better than a 6 man dev squad inside a razoback w/ heavy bolters or lascannon (i advise the h.b.). Think of transports as less 'getting close' as some have suggested, and more a way to move your troops wherever you want strategically.

| The Great Wolf ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah what he said...LMAOActually Erus is correct...I use my phalanx of armor when I am assaulting...but it's nice to have the option of throwin a squad into a vehicle for rapid responses...and there is always the fact that regardless of what vehicle it is a pintle mounted strom bolter adds a lil extra firepower and gives you a better chance of holdin out when that assault is looming into a weak spot in your lines...

| ex Chaplain Shadow ![]() | Thank you for the help everyone, I was thinking of getting a few Razor backs, especially for the Dev squad which I will be getting. Since it is a shooty army to I am getting a whilwind. I got a land raider still deciding to either with LRC or regular LR. |

Blog Entries: 5 | With a mostly shooty army, you don't need the uber long range of the regular LR, so I would advise going LRC. Still good range, but more versatile, and you can pop whatever needed CC squad in it to get them there quicker!!!
