in my experience the trouble is with the young ones that they don't understand that they are doing anything wrong - they can touch the store models and they don't understand the distinction between that and an individual's models

this was not at a GW store with display models
but at a local shop(a RT shop) where I go to game
and its not like this kid was 8 or younger then they would get a free pass
plus when i go to game i keep crap for the kids like old ork dreads and things they can paint and mess up all they want like this land raider they orkified

im not a jerk im a father myself
but this kid was 16-17
he should know better
and his father should have "told him how to act"

One of the things that I'm getting killed over is that my games keep getting the table yanked out from under them. I didn't get a finish a really good game of 40k the other day because we had been playing for an hour and a half...meanwhile there was a horrible game of apocalypse next to me that had been going on for 4 hours. Frak Apocalypse man.
Also didn't get to finish a Fantasy game. Both of these games were great and would have been huge bragging rights against my friends because I was going to with crushing moves in the 5th turn. Pity they killed both of them at the top of the 5th and I was the bottom. I'm too cerebral of a player and I make too many mistakes if I am rushed and I'm already distracted by every kid who comes up and bothers me once I'm 30 minutes into a game and they complain I'm taking too long.

*Sighs*
Occasionally I think i'm the only "kid" who is remotely worthy of being a gamer. I've yet to find one that doesn't annoy the hell out of me.
Shunting back on topic, It'd have to be my first ever game of 3rd Ed. And I wouldn't call it worst staff EXPERIENCE, just worst staff. I walked into GW Leicester, and the staff were really nice & everything. And one of them said "Hey, would you like to try out a starting game?" I refused, having played RT for quite a while (And having built up a small army of 3rd Ed before going in the store and getting a general grip on the rules.) and to him I said, "Let's just have a normal, proper game eh?" And so we did. And half way through this game, I took out his entire left flank with some assault troopers + 1 squad of deep striked Termies. He didn't seem to like this, and, picking up his models, went through the staff door. He didn't come back. And I've not, as of yet, seen him in the store again.
=/ eh?

ive only had one horror story, and its not as bad as some others. about 3 years ago i had just finished my first army, 3k points of space marines. i thought they were awesome, but of course some red shirt laughed at them, saying they looked like an epilectic had painted them ;..;
so instead of kicking him in the gonads i challenged him to a 40k game and handed his ass to him. they may not be pretty, but damnit dont make fun of my stuff! hah!

killer, are you between 15-18 or younger? cause i am, and i would consider myself a fine gamer.
the red shirts at my local store are excellent now! the problems i had with them before is that they would let you use unprimed models, and they would let you use an army that you had just primed and not worked on in a while (they used to want to see progress)
however, they now keep track of regular's armies and see if progress is being made!

we also have an academy program for the little 'uns so that they DONT turn into dreaded GSK's. they teach you how to play, assembly, painting, list building, tactics, and, most importently and i love them for this, GAMER ETIQUETTE
the thing costs $90, and for this you get those lessons, the macragge rulebook, and a figure case at the end. however, the first lesson is free. and that lesson is the etiquette thing, so that even if they dont get the whole shebang, they know the best part. HAVE FUN!

though it is a coporate store, it has an RT feel to it. minus the other products of course

Wow some of those stories are horrible epsecially being accused of stealing. I havnt been into my local store let alone play a proper game in a while. But when I used to go more often (no bloody exams) they were awesome I even remember once lending my paintbrush to someone else forgetting it and then coming back an hour or so later and getting it back because the guy left it with the staff there.

Unlike Wordbearers, I have been in GW stores before (Denver and LA). The Denver store was my home away from home while I lived there. The employees were nice and I even became friends with a couple of them and greatly enjoyed my time there. Not all GW stores are bad......

i have to admit ive only been to 3 stores
one in concord NC (the best one ive been to i think its closed now)
one near detroit MI
and one in Yipsilanti MI
its not like they spit one me when i walked int he door
but there was just a certain feeling going on in there
and one of the workers said some "off" stuff to my wife
something like "if he's the only one that plays why are you here"
needless to say she is a pitbull
that kid didnt know what hit him
she let him know about himself
so we just avoid GW shops
she really likes the RT shop i go to
and shes going to GD this year with me

I've only been into one GW store in Nevada. and i had the luck to land the manager for the guy who tried to sell me stuff. he was talking soo high and mighty about the huge army he had assembled for nids. he had spend the better part of 3 years collecting it and paying retail for everything and had about 1500 points of it painted (he had a grand total of 3600 pts of models) and was talking about how he had never seen anyone with a bigger army and people should try to emulate him. (this was not to long ago w
