Armor simply subtracts damage. So for instance, if a lasgun does 10 damage, and you have a TB of 3 and armor of 3, then 10-3-3=4 so you would lose 4 wounds. That's how that works. Armor in Dark Heresy is VERY good... a suit of full flak armor and a TB of 4 (which is pretty easy to get, IHMO) means that your attacker needs to do a total of 9 damage to remove a SINGLE wound...  Oh... and I'm going to quickly run over my posts and put up a wound count post...

Basically, you have two kinds of fate points, in WFRP the lesser kinds are called fortune points, which basically allow you to reroll anything that you want for one fortune point. At the beginning of every day you get upto as many as you have fate points. In DH, they have no special name, you just use a fate point (if you want to use them like fortune points) or "burn" a fate point (if you want to use them like fate points). So for instance, if I want to hit a cultist with my lasgun, but fail, I can reroll the dice if I use a fate point. However, if the cultist hits me and I would normally die, then I could BURN a fate point to survive.
