| It's cool, in my opinion better than the Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing book, but then again I know more about 40K so that's probably the reason. If your asking which of us wants it...your talking to the wrong crowd mate as we've all already got it. |

| Ah. Well I imagine some of the people who have actually done RPs more regularly would be better people to ask. The only RPs I've ever partaken in have been here on 40KTerra. Its basically where you create a character and take him/her/it through a series of narrative adventures with a group of other individuals...erm, ask MoW or Erus for more info as they've done alot more than me. Hell have a look over the other RPs in this section (they're not like Dark Heresy where you roll to do a certain action, more story based). p.s I moved this here as it didn't seem to be appropriate addressing it in the RP Out Of Character thread ![]() |

Blog Entries: 1 | RPs... *GRowls* Fine, I'll give him an explanation. RPs come in hugely massive different forms. You can play them over forums, over the internet, on pen & paper, on games on WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT! Because RP is extremely flexible. The Dark Heresy RP is a (Well, technically) Pen & Paper RP, where you create a character sheet and through various rolls and tests attempt to lead him/her through the adventure as best you can. For example on our Dark Heresy, we're using an internet based rolling system to decide what happens in combat etc.. However, this is not the only form of RP. The more popular and more widely played form is, in simple terms, creating a story with alot of different people. Each person has 1 character or more, and generally one person is the sort of "Leader" of the group, though this doesn't always happen (It's more specific to Forum/Pen & Paper RPs, whereas most Game based RPs don't have a leader). The "Leader" plays like a normal character, however he/she will also make alot of key story/plot based posts (See Hic In Suus Nomen). In RPs without a leader, everyone contributes to the story and makes it up as they go along, being it characters dying or being attacked.. etc... etc... However, they're also a large amount of rules posted here: RP Rules But the most important rules are: Don't God-Mod yourself. This means don't make your character stronger and better than everyone else, and automatically kill everything. This is why we disallowed Space Marines. And - Don't try and control other people's characters. They know what they want to do with them, where they want to go, and indeed what their character's personality is like. It really doesn't work well if someone else tries to control your character for you. They'll end up doing/being something you don't want them to. Thanks TheKiller

Blog Entries: 4 | An RPG, or role-playing game, is exactly what it says on the tin. You take on the role of a particular character and play that character through a series of adventures. There are various kinds (play by post, moderated, unmoderated, tabletop, etc.), of which play by post is the only one I have any great familiarity with. Although I remember that one forum I was on had a number of "bar" threads where people could play their characters outside of the games and generally rub shoulders with other characters to get personalities pinned down. Another forum still did this via chat, setting a special chatroom aside for it.

| I like to think of a roleplaying game like dark heresy (NOT like a video game... pen and paper RPGs are by far much better, imo) as a sorta story-telling game. Basically, all the PCs (player characters) control the "heroes" of the story, while the GM (game master) controls all the other characters, from allies, enemies, merchants and minor characters. Now, the reason you need a rule book to play RPGs is for two things: setting and rules. Dark Heresy gives you all sorts of information on the setting of Dark Heresy, the Calaxis Sector, and how the Inquistion works in this sector. It also provides you with rules, rules for all the guns and swords your PCs will use, how to pick locks, smash open doors, and kill people, etc. If you think that sounds like fun... pick up the book, it is truly an amazing game.
