Default Development/Management thread.

Ok, trying to now get this little dusty corner on the site up and active. Some people have weighed in on being interested in an RP for 40K, and now I am healed enough from my car wreck to be able to sit long enough to type and model for extended periods of time, so I thought i'd get the ball rolling. This thread will be for several purposes, and be the hub for managing RPs in future campaigns.

First thing is first... We need rules.. These I would prefer to be fairly open, as too much constriction on rules makes it less fun to RP, and cuts down on individuality, but with the base we will potentially have to draw players from, we need some univeral direction. I will not be posting my own, yet, as I want to get other peoples opinions before I decide. Keep in mind these don't have to be an entire essay. They can just be as simple as 'No titans should be in the RP.' or as complex as 'X can't be allowed because Y would be useless then, and unless Z were to happen no one would want to do Y and then A would have to happen to make X useful, and the Y is useless again'.

Second thing.. I will need help managing these forums. I am anticipating pulling many gentlemen I know who play D&D and other pen-paper RPGs to here, so the volume of posts and participants should increase, and due to a full plate of physical therapty, work, and trying to crunch out 3K for the tournaments coming up, I may not be available day-to-day. I would request some volunteers, but would also like to take the time to invite Dead Commando, as I think he is responsible enough, and is alos different enough from me that things will be kept balanced and fair.

Third thing: After rules have been developed (I would like them to be finalized by New Years, no later), I will need campaign ideas, but the campaigns wanted by our populous will likely impact our rules, so I encourage you all to submit your ideas to me, ethier via E-Mail, Messenger, or PM.

So far that is all. So please, reply to this thread with rules ideas, send me or any announced co-directors of the Guild, and feel free to begin recruiting anyone you know who may wish to join us!

Okay first off I would like to say this.

Unless told otherwise, please, do not use space marines!

Now, a good Rper could make a marine useful, and in fact do one well. Also, it would be cool to have a space marine on some pendant mission with a Inquistor.

Also, I'm not sure what exactly we will be doing, whether we'll have multiple Rps going at once, or one big thing (I like the numerous smaller Rps better, btw).

While'll I'm thinking on it, lets get this ball rolling with some thought dumping.

We'd need a place were we can have most of our chars meet and chat together. (like a tavern sorta place) No fighting allowed. (Unless the resident mod or something, says so).

Also, we'd need a char. sheet format of general type, and a place to put said char sheets, another thread.

Third, we need an official head DM or something that would perhaps have mod status, not only would he keep the forum clean from spam, flames, and trolls, but he'd be a RPer who could come around and help out with big things (I nominate ME!, or Erus... mabye ).

Anyways, lets get this ball rolling!

Lord Erus, I suppose you would be interested in modship of the RP boards? Or any other takers? We can kick it off!

I would.. Thought I had posted a reply but apparently type one up and forgot to submit it. I'll re-type it later, as right now I really, really need to go and attempt to sleep.

im dead set against 50% of anything from imperial armies in 40k taking part in this - so nothing from the amrin codex (too powerful and fluff-wise, they just dont make sense), generally, no guardsmen either.

things i like are rogues, scoundrels, religious 'fanatics', missionaries, cultists, gunfighters, trailblazers, bionically augmented civvies, wyrds, barely-mutants, low members of the adeptus ministorum and adeptus administratum out on missions etc, you get my drift - these (imho) are the kind of things that make 40k what it is.

just think of the 'classes' from whfrp, update the to a 40k setting and thats what i think is good for 40k.

Never played whfrp, or DnD, or anything like that, just text-based rps...

And, though I understand where you are coming from, whats wrong with playing a young commissar, or junior officer, or a conscript? I think that could be fun.

yes but many things that exist in the games wont make sense in roleplay. imagine a rogue trader and his crew, why in the nine hells would there be a marine in his crew, or even a guardsman? it doesnt make sense! as long as the characters all fit in together i see no problem, but marines just stick out like sore thumbs - they have no role other than to fight and the power vacuum they create is just too much.

Imagine a last chancer-style group of guard - that would give you the chance to include many different kinds of characters.

and ive never been a fan of inquisitor being, well, about inquisitors. i love what the game done for the background of 40k, but i think so many other things that can be done thats its wasted on people playing =][= warbands. thats why i like AdMech and Cult warbands, cuz at least theyre different.

im not a fan of inquisitor warbands in a true roleplaying game - most characters are not balanced with one another and theres the question of who the =][= is: is he an NPC (no one likes NPCs who are better than the rest of the party) or is he an actual player (the only thing worse than a powerful NPC is a powerful player)

id be careful when selecting vocations and classes, and how to implement them in the game

what your saying is given, I grant you that. We just have to work out these role-plays carefully.

I think everyone should submit a basic character concept, that way we can see what the majority of RPers want to play. From there we can see what works and what doesnt. If you submited a concept that didnt really work with the majority....i'm sure some kind of comprimise could be made to get that player something else they like that "fits in" so to speak.

Talk about reviving and old thread. I'm guessing we're still sticking with the Hic In Suus Nomen? Due to it being revived?
